This is a 2.0 Bontrager tire, I hope it fits in the rear as well. Front rim is an Open Pro, I haven't built up a rear wheel yet, but am leaning toward the Salsa Delgado vs. the matching open pro rim.

It was also nice enough for me to get out and linseed the frame..or at least try. I don't know if the process is easier with real frame saver, but that oil is the worst...**** gets everywhere.

last update...

weight for 2010 60cm frame is 2409 grams or 5.31 pounds
new uncut fork w/ rack holes 1122 grams or 2.47 pounds

I'm no weight weenie, just got a table top park scale because I sell a lot of stuff on eBay and people are always asking me weights.

need some sizing help for a crosscheck

I am going to order my Cross Check this week and I wanted some advice on the size. I am 5'8" 31'ish inseam and I am not sure if I should go 52 or 54 and I was wondering if anyone out there was about my size and could clue me in.

Thanks
Keith

Well, I did a mock up with the Bontrager 29-3 x 2.0 on the rear using my Stan's Arch 29er wheel (pretty wide for a cx bike) and it still fit well in the rear most position. Fit, but tighter in the front-most position but would probably rub in hard cornering situations. I'm sure this will improve with the skinnier Delgado rim (waiting on the shipment from Slowgoat). Pics tomorrow or the next day.

Edit: Standover on a 60cm frame with the 29 x 2.0 is 34" + change...not a problem for me, but something to be considered.

Got the blue Brooks B17 in today, also stopped by the LBS and ordered some Woodchippers so I haven't cut the steerer or installed the star nut yet. Treefort order comes in on Tuesday

Still need to find some 10 speed shimano bar cons...got some from eBay but they were beat up so I returned them...AND need to build the rear wheel, did that last night and noticed I used the wrong drive side spoke length and had to unlace it :madman: rookie mistake :madmax:

I'd really like to know how wide the rims are with those 2.0s...I'm considering a pair of the 2.0 Marathon Supremes on mine. I've seen a fella's Cross Check on Flickr with Fat Franks on it, but he says the rims are under 20mm. I have Mavics that are about 24mm.

Regarding the topic at hand, I'm 6'1", but with a fairly long 34.5 inseam. Mine is a 58. I think a 60 would possibly be better, but I already have some reach issues which I semi-solved with some Soma Sparrow bars. I'm kicking around getting a higher-rise stem, but I don't want to get it much more silly looking than it already is:

Overall, it's a pretty comfortable bike for me in this setup, though a 60 would leave me with a little less exposed seatpost and steerer.

Took it on the maiden voyage today. Just around town, getting the saddle right, and adjusting the derailleur a bit. This thing is fast! I picked up a new King rear hub on the classifieds for $160, had a King front wheel already...sweet ride. Tomorrow is the 44 mile gravel grinder..the real test!

Try to find one to test ride

I'm 6'5 with a 35 or so inseam and ride a 62. I assumed by default this would be the best fit for me, but I'm convinced a 60 would work just as well or maybe better. I have a long torso so with the Surly geometry you would think a 62 would be perfect for me. I ride road bikes exclusively and don't mind being stretched out, but I still dropped 20mm off the stem. So if it were me, I would try to find a couple to check out. There is a google group of Surly owners that will let you try their rides out. If you would normally ride a 60, definitely get the 58.

Thanks, but uhhhhhhhhhh, if you read the thread or even just look at the pics, you would see that I already bought and built a 60cm. I love it and am appreciative of all the advice. The 60 was a great decision (for me).

Welcome to MTBR!

AppleSSeed, I see you ended up with the 60. When you measured, did you take the larger tire size into account? Surly bases their measurements on 30C tires, and I'm probably going to put 40-50mm ones on there.

Based on my current "road" bike, I was about to order a 60, but if I add 20mm to the standover I might need to go with the 58cm.

Anyone else encounter this?
