Dart 3 vs Tora?

So my Rockhopper came with a Dart 3 fork. I've been looking to upgrade it and found a Rock Shox Tora for $80. Is it much of an upgrade.

I haven't bottomed my Dart out or anything. I'm 6' 4" and around 230 lbs. I ride fairly aggressively. I try to be smooth though.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Well there are various levels of Tora forks...but the advantage of all the Tora forks for your size is that it is SIGNIFICANTLY stiffer and stronger with 32mm stanchions instead of the Dart's 28mm stanchions.

Which model are they upgrading you to?

It's an 09 Tora SL.

Same damper as the Dart 3 but lighter, stronger, and stiffer fork. If it's got the Solo Air that would be an extra bonus.

Easily worth the $80 upgrade

While the Tora is an upgrade over the Dart, I'd say save your money and buy a truly competent fork with a good damper like the Manitou Match.

I think the upgrade would only be worth it if it was a motion control or solo air version of the tora. otherwise it would be almost the same fork but with different stanction sizes as the other poster mentioned.

Keep in mind you can upgrade the Tora to a Motion Control damper for about $50...that makes a $130 upgrade. A worthy upgrade for sure, and if the SL is the Solo Air version you would have quite a nice setup.
