hello Nice and wise fellow homers!

I have a 2006 HL spot 5.3rockers with dhx-a.
I have a chance to buy cheap upgrade with 2009 FOX RP23 Float.

But i think that on 5spots the rp23 were sold with special bigger air sleeve or air can??
(if my memory serves me right)??
and mabye there were alsos ome factory setting like firm medium soft or somethinglike that??

So my question is; would the standard 2009 rp23 with smaller air can or sleeve or something be a real upgrade?
eaven with a standard air sleeve or can and with some unknown factory pre setting?

Hope somedy will be kind to answer
i know you know!

i am 67 kilograms (sorry for the metric) and ride really rocky and technical trails with 3feet drops to flat.

regards riku

I think most people will agree that the RP23 would be an upgrade from the DHX Air. At your weight you will probably want to try the bigger volume air sleeve. The small sleeve will result in a more progressive shock, so you may not get all the travel and it may feel a little harsh. The larger sleeve will feel more linear. You can buy aftermarket sleeves for $30 - $40, or less used. You can easily shim the HV sleeve to fine tune the shock - there is an extensive thread here on the method. The shock should have decals on the air sleeve to tell you what the factory tuning for compression and rebound is. If possible, avoid the high compression tune. PUSH is always an option. I would do the swap, particularly if the RP23 is a good deal.

Thank you for sharing your wisdom
And thank yous for Arne And also!

So the factory settings are for compression and rebound?
And for 5spot the high compression tune is no good?
Those can be altered afterwards ?? Ihope?

Also the LV sleeve one is highly recomended on some posts on some the HV is recomened
so any guess wich would be better HV or LV for i light chap like me.

Lighter riders tend to prefer the HV sleeve to get full travel and better small bump compliance. Heavier riders like the LV sleeve to prevent bottoming out the shock and to give more mid-stroke support. These are generalities - your experience may be different based on how you ride. With the HV sleeve and the shim you can tune it to your preference. The shim is not an option on the LV sleeve.
The high compression tune makes the shock feel too damped IMO, but it still functions. The only way to change the factory tune is to get a custom tune through PUSH or another shock tuner.
