With the loss of the unsprung weight in the wheels, the suspension also became noticeably more responsive.
Less rotating weight is a good thing I agree but the susp is more responsive? First time I've heard that, I have never experienced that altho I guess I've never run lightweight wheels on a susp bike before, please explain.

This winter I plan on purchasing the new Carbon 29'er wheels from Easton for the Sultan I will be getting in a few weeks. 1590 grms!, and a 2 year unconditional warranty. Should be sweet!
Stoked to hear another "plus-sized" Homer will try these before me. Every time I try a freehub other than King, they die quickly, so please post again if they hold up!

No locals only deals from Enve for SLC riders?

I would argue that is more in your head sometimes than it is is reality, it's so easy to get convinced what you can't run/do. I run a road-cassette and a 32 on my 29er hardtail (it ain't super light either). Many people run 34 cassettes on 29ers obviously, and I'm sure there are quite a few "in between", 32s, racers with SLX 28s, etc. "Needing the granny" is very subjective, and if anything I'd rather have the 32 with my 12-27 cassette, that way I have usable low gears, nothing so low that I just spin out. Traction is always important here due to how steep/loose it is, and too low of a gear is just as bad as too high.

Not to say that it isn't needed sometimes, I totally agree that for some people ultra-low gearing is good, but traditional gearsets have had lots of unsusable/reudundant gears for me. The 42 ring entirely, 22-34 and 22-32 combos, even the 22-30 most of the time, etc.
I agree with you in terms of things being in your head, however alls I'm sayin' is for the stuff I ride the 30 tooth feels good. I like it a lot for technical climbing and rock hopin', its nice. I ride my bike more like a 1x9 with the 22 being there in case of emergencies, or when my legs are just too tired from too much riding.

What is Enve? I'll be getting my set from 3point5. Below cost of course. :D

Hahahaha, those are about the only gears I use when I'm riding suspension:)

Which is sort of ironic given that 32X21 does me fine 99% of the time on the SS. It probably is all in my head.
