Wife an I are heading up to the NJ shore in August. Our plans are to spend 5 days getting back, driving a little bit per day, riding every day, and camping as we head back to good ol' richmond, va.

Wondering if anyone could provide us with advice for:

1) Places to ride for 1 advance male and 1 advanced beginner female to have as much fun as possible. 6-10 miles might be her limit.

2) Primo places to camp for free along the way.

Don't mind traveling out of the way a bit to hit stuff. Could go through appropriate sections of NJ, PA, WV, VA. Got Hennessy Hammocks so no camp pads necessary, but a water source for my camp shower would be a must, or a nice creek to jump in.

might be a little far north for you this trip but this is an area on my wish list...

Thanks Mini, didn't really want to go above I-80. I thought there were some folks on here from Southeast PA that could give me some "local advise". Finding a place to ride seems less daunting then finding a free camp pad with all the luxuries of the19th century :)

Located a bit more in central-PA, but by far some of the best trails I have ridden on. I live in the western part of PA, but my friends and I like to make the 4hr drive atleast 3-4 times each summer.

Has a lot of everything for anyone!
Heard of it. For the travel, might want to hit that one up with the da boyz instead of da wife. Heard it's a great trail system though.

So I worked out a "first draft" itinerary, and was hoping for some opinions.

I am an advance rider with good technical skills, but the wife is an advance beginner. I want to keep it interesting enough for me, while not getting her angry with me for taking her on something too hard. :pleaseplease:

Tuesday
Drive: (1:12)
Ride: Baldpate Mtn: Mercer County Park
Drive: (2:03)
Camp: Elk Neck State Park

Wednesday
Ride: Fair Hills NMRA
Drive: (2:12)
Camp: Maple Tree Campground

Thursday
Ride: Little Bennett Regional Park
Drive: (1:57)
Camp: Wilderness site near Elizabeth Furnace

Friday
Ride: Elizabeth Furnace
Drive: (1:59)
Camp: Wilderness site near North River Gorge

Saturday
Ride: Up and down Dowell's Draft
Drive: Home to Richmond, VA

I hate to pay for camping, but there is not a lot of free wilderness camping in DE or MD. Got a drop on a secret (legal) site?

Let me know what you think.
