The only thing AMP has on GD is cosmetics. The GD is a less complicated and a much easier design to service. It is more consistent in it's operation, and has no lateral play which the AMP developed within 6 months. (I was told by AMP to live with it, "it won't affect operation") CS is also night and day. GD tends to business very fast and takes care of it's customers. AMP, not so much.
This has been my exact experience as well. I have a 4" AMP that I've been riding for two years. Maybe it's just me, but I've had a REALLY hard time getting AMP to communicate with me by either email or phone. The play that's developed in the post is super annoying. The Gravity Droppers don't seem to have as much play. To top it all off, the head on the seatpost squeaks if I don't lube it regularly...like every ride. I'll be going Gravity Dropper next time.

communication

yep, that's the ticket. If no communication on the buying end, what'll happen on the warranty end. And now AMP is gone for JULY. Too bad.
Thanks for the input guys.

I'm gonna say go with the GD, I own both, and the Amp is sitting in a box jammed all the way down. The neoprene boot lets fine silt and sand through and in the case of mine this caused the mechanism to jam up. It wasn't the first issue I had had with the post, it seemed the bearing surfaces would wear and groove out very quickly, and the whole thing would just start creaking. When it was working it worked very well and I actually like it. But the GD has been bomb proof for the last year and I've ridden it through muddier rides than I did with the Amp and see no signs of mud or sand under the boot. It just plain works...now if I can just keep my WTB saddle from creaking it would all be good!

happy trails...

classic or turbo?
does the classic still need the tap on the seat to be lowered and raised?

Classic all the way.....

Hey Mr. hball,

I have all three versions of the GD and I like the Classic best due to the cable routing. However, you do need to do the butt tap on the seat if you're using the Classic. For me it's a non-issue as you quickly adapt to it and the cable routing is superior over the other two models.;)

Enjoy,

Michael:thumbsup:

Keep in mind too for other who maybe interested in the GD, not necessarily the 27.2. GD has released their 30.9 post with a 5" drop. YAAAAY!
FWIW, I have the Turbo 27.2 model been using for several years now and I think its the bomb. The cable routing does $uck but theyre are ways to improve on it and make it better.

Is the actual post larger diameter on the 30.9 or just the outer sleeve? The pictures of GD's snapped off at the post make me leery.

No 31.6 yet?
Actual post is bigger than the original on the 30.9 - need sleeve to get to 31.6

Turbo. I have three Turbos and one classic, and I dislike the classic every time I have to ride that bike.
I definitely recommend the Turbos as well. I have two and love them!!! Also, I just run mine backwards and it alleviates any problems with the cable routing. When you order the post you can choose an option to run them backwards and they will ship it with a longer cable.
