Rarely is it that I start a thread but I felt that this could be important.

Right now there are local politicians trying to close the fireroad access to Soquel Demo Forest (only to bikes, of course). I was there Saturday and Sunday there was a petition at the trail head, and I've been told they are also in some LBSs. If you go by there make sure to sign the petition. This was my first weekend at Soquel and I love it already.

Also anyone know whats going on with the Calabazas jumps? Someone told me there was a petition for that too.

Here is some SC folks that seem to be doing good things for the trails:

I love Demo. Some of the best riding around. The upper section of Braile just got re-worked not long ago. About Calabazas jumps, ........ A while ago, some kid wrecked really good and now he's got a law suit going. The dumbshit aparently "didnt see" a huge water truck parked by one of the jumps and slammed into it and is now claiming that the city ****ed up by parking it there. That place has been city owned since the begining and has always been a "ride at your own risk" kind of a place. And now this little ****head is messing it up for everyone. Calabazas was closed down once before because of somthing like this, but eventually re-opened. Things are not looking as good this time around.

Liberals...

Perhaps it is the tree-hugging liberals that are terrified of our bikes messing up 'their' trails? Isn't something like happening in the Santa Barbara area too?

F%cking liberals, always messing things up.....

The difference between Calabazas and Falls City, is that the city of San Jose was actually okay w/ the Calabazasjump park being there. The city would even leave hoses out so people could work on building more jumps. At one point when it was closed for a similar type event, the local parents and bicycle advocates got together w/ the city and worked things out. Now, this one little bastard is really messing it all up, only this time for good. It only takes 1. And it's really a shame. I just dont see how the city of San Jose is gunna be okay with re-opening it after it was so fully taken advantage of.

this is something that interests me, why do the "treehuggers" think our bikes are so bad for trails and environment? For a long time i just figured that maybe they are right but after riding a local trail about 2 weeks after a rain storm I started to wonder. The trail had been totally torn up by the horses and it seemed like our bikes were necessary to get it packed down again. Is this all about greennazis mistakenly stigmatizing bikes because they are machines or is there some merit to their arguement?

umm... you are a bit confused buddy. the water truck was at sandhill ranch. a guy on the motorcycle track at sandhill was riding and he hit the truck. at calabazas a kid crashed and is now paralyzed i think... he is not messing it up, he wants it to stay there. it's his parents that are taking action. be a bit more sympathetic next time, and know the facts.
BTW he is not a ****head. from what i've heard he's a great guy and by no means does he want cali to be closed.

dude are you really that stupid?

that was sandhill, not cali... so before you start calling people "little sh!theads" you should maybe get your facts straight

my point exactly...

It's the dumba$$ treehugger liberals....Horses are fine to tear up trails, but god help us if bikes are allowed with so much as a wet spot anywhere. I respect and love my bike trails, but I guess I just feel that bikers are treated unfairly.

That little bastard happens to be a buddie of mine, *******. His family made threats to sue but he was SOOO against it, because he realized that what he was doing, could potentially put him in danger. He even got kicked out of his house, and had to, move out because he and his father did not agree about the actions to take. He is now in a wheelchair, and is pretty much paralyzed from the waist down. He said that there was never a lawsuit, and never will be a lawsuit. So the reason they shut it down, is not totally his fault. Imagine if the same thing happened to you, and your family could not pay the medical bills to get you back and living right again. What is the way out? Lawsuits can help people when appropriately, but when getting very out of hand like this, where you spend thousands and thousands of dollars on medical bills, and cannot pay them what is the only option left? Without lawsuits, companies like Viox could still be selling medicine legally, that can kill people, and nobody can do anything about it. Lawsuits are a neccesity in this days society, and without them, we would be very unprotected. The people that need to be blamed are like some people (I will not go naming names) that go and tear holes in the fences so they can go and ride in an area that was closed down. That cannot help this situation, it can only worsen it. It may seem like a good idea for a little while, but is it worth the hour or two of sessioning the jumps and in return, the spot is in jeoporday of being shut down? I think not. The guy who fell is a very kind hearted soul, and will be greatly missed in the local biking world. He always made everyone smile, and never did I hear him say anything bad about anyone. You cannot go blaming things on people when you dont even know the full story. pfffffff That ends my rant.............

agree that lawsuits are called for in many cases. But when YOU bail on YOUR bike because YOU got squirrely on a turn is not one of them. Neck level barbed wire is a different story. I'd kill a man over that. I spend the dough on med insurance cause I know theres risk. I ride a trail becasue it is gnar not inspite of it. If I wanted to sue somebody I'd be a roadie and get hit by a car on a windy road. The way they close trails when poeple get hurt I'm surprised they don't close roads when people die in car accidents. I respect the guy for not bringing suit. As for the sandhill thing, from what I've heard, that guy sounds like a douche.

barbed wire

Yes and even the occasional barb wire at neck level, at least a couple of years ago. That is always an added fun factor whil riding Tunnel, am I gonna loose my head today?
ive found razor wire and crushed glass on our Tranies. not at neck hight but im pretty shure no matter what youd get cut up pretty bad. I pretty much think some one is gona hafta get killed before cities designate a safe place for us to buid and ride.

Public Apology

When I went off yesterday, I did in fact get my facts ****ed up. I was thinking of Calabazas AND Sandhill at the same time and just kinda went off and twisted both scenarios. BOTH situations really pissed me off and it all came out in one puke on here. Stratguy, I'm really sorry your buddy got that ****ed up, I did indeed get him confused w/ that kid at Sandhill and I apologize. My stance on lawsuits stays the same, but I do also see your point. I do know the stress parents can go through with very high medical bills, I just don't agree that someone who had nothing to do with the problem should have to pay for it, unless of course they did have something to do with it like malpractice or something of that nature. So again, I'm sorry about crossing up my facts. And Kadvang……. you can still kiss my a$$. Your pretty much just a punk a$$ kid and your opinion means nothing to me.
