I think its getting time to retire my 02 Norco Shore. Its a fun bike, but I have decided that I like 2 things: street riding (on the hardtail) and downhill. I am not a hucker and I am not really into shore style stunts either...I just like to go downhill fast.

With that in mind, I have been looking for either a new frame to replace the shore, or maybe a whole new bike. The one thing that I really don't like about my shore is the standover. I am 5'11 but I have a rather short inseam. I know a lot of people ride DH oriented bikes that have zero standover clearance, but I would much prefer something that was lower.

I have looked at balfa bb7's, turner dhr's, norco team dh's, and the cannfield f1. The problem is all of these frames are VERY expensive (not as much with the norco, but even that is no budget bike). Are there any frames out there I might look at that would fit the bill w/o breaking the bank? I don't think I am a good enough rider to justify a 2k+ frame, and more importantly I dont want to spend that much.

I think my favorite out of the bunch would be the turner (I have never seen a F1 in real life so who knows). Do I just need to get a second job and save up for a bit? Or are there some other options out there?

2003 bb7 is the way i ride. i like it. it has low standover. your post re $$$ is a bit odd. are you saying that you can afford a $2k frame? if so, there are some new-ishbb7s on ridemonkey for around a grand, which is way below your limit.

the bike is a pig at slow speeds, but is very stable in the air (what little i get) and rolls over anything at speed (with the right fork).

No, I was saying that I am not really enough rider to justify a $2k frame. The thing is, I have been looking for a frame that is setup for DH, but has a low standover. The frames I listed seem to fit the bill, but unfortunately they are $$$$$. The turner DHR sells for about 2100 frame only, the cannfield f1 is about 2200 frame only, the norco team dh is 1800 frame only, and the bb7...do they actually make them anymore? Someone said balfa is going out of business.

My question is, are there any other frames I should be looking at? Specifically, any frames that would be less money? (I love mountain biking as much as anyone, but $2k+ for a frame only is pushing it)

My racelink is the lowest bike i have seen in person and has a stable 47.125" WB. yummy!

This looks low too and worth a look.

Racelink is badass, but $3500 for just the frame is totally out of the question. :)

That other bike you posted is interesting tho, I will take a look.

oops, i cannot read very good.

yeah, bb7s are on hold with the rest of the balfa line. things are in limbo and not looking good. that is why you can get a bb7 in good shape for not much $$$ if you look through the used ads.
