Did one last bleed and now they are leaking again around the MC cap seal again. So that's it now. Life is too short and I am fed up getting dot 4 everywhere.

F=ck you Hayes and your **** products. I will never ever buy Hayes again. In addition, I will try and steer people away from Hayes. If I never see another Hayes product it will be too bloody soon.

Up yours Hayes. You owe me money. Thieves!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

PS: sort out your quality control.

Did you remove the cap and clean/reseat the seal?
Did you call the US customer support like so many people here recomended?
Are both master cylinder's leaking, or just one?
What exactly is your brake bleed procedure?

I'm really thinking you are just a troll here to bad-mouth Hayes. I'm not saying their products are perfection, but you seem to be avoiding all advice and just getting angry at the company, which it seems you haven't really tried to rectify the problem correctly.

Yes
Emailed them, can't afford to phone the USA..
Just one
Really? Don't patronize me. Suffice to say, two syringes, and the rear was bled perfectly in one attempt. And this in spite of it being on the bike, and a 1650mm rear hose. I think something dicky with the front. If you recall, the shop couldn't bleed the front either but gave me no explanation why.

A troll? That's rich. So anyone who has SPENT LOADS and not got what they were paid for is a troll? LOL

I have been right royally ripped off. Because I have not got what I paid for.

You have a leak - fluid out, air in, IMO that's why the front won't bleed.

You are probably right. But where do I go from here? Perhaps the surfaces of the mc and cap are not machined flat enough. Perhaps there is a fault. I notice there is a scratch or groove on the surface of the machined surface of the mc, where the seal sits, though interestingly it is not here the fluid leaks.

I can't help think the place I go from here is to a different company.

I think I am like you in that I like products that work and hate ones that don't.

I thought I was going to get to try that legendary Hayes bite and got nothing of the sort. I really thought I was going to get anchors. The rear is a bloody good anchor but my front had nothing and now I have fallen out of love with them. I just got problems.

What made me buy them as an upgrade to the J3SL? The J3SL was great, but I tried the Stroker Rydes and preferred the initial bite. So I thought the Trails would be better still. What a letdown. Hayes were once the king of muscle. My rear had muscle, whereas my front merely had special educational needs.

Something is definitely defective about the front brake, 9-speed. My rear had exactly the same niggling problem and Hayes pretty much said....."tough luck."Yes, their QC sucks.

Sell them as parts, cut your losses and move along. Luckily, Hope is the complete opposite...they are made with unending attention to detail and perfection, just like my Magura Marta SL.

Don't feel so rotten, mate. I went through THREE SETS of bad brakes, before I found satisfaction. The thing is though, I didn't seek out help from this forum...I went directly to the makers(Hayes USA, Avid). Even though I'll never buy Hayes or Avid brakes again(shame, because I LOVED my BB7s)...I choose not to blast them here on this site. The moment you can get over the fact you did not get what you paid for and KEEP TRYING to seek it....is when you become SATISFIED. Trust me, it will happen- you just need to look for it now.

i can get flasH avids for 200 quid... but after seeing the ventless rotor of avids.. maybe i should just stick the 300 down for a set of homegrown Hopes. Perhaps missout any more frustrations, however unlikely. Not that I have any reason to doubt Avid. I thought the Juicy was a better brake than the old Hope monos. But the new tech M4.. hhhhmmmmmmmmmmmm

wheres best deals for m4 front and rear in the uk?

I am saying all this like i can afford to be extravagant. I cant. Work is dried up in blighty. Im skint and Hayes nicked some of my money. Thanks Hayes.

You don't need the latest and greatest Hopes...maybe if you are a racer. The present Hope Mono Mini is still on par with my Magura Marta, and an excellent brake for the money.

Says the guy who won't ask the company for help and give them an opportunity to rectify the situation. EVERY company has a defective item ship out occasionally, get over it, you're not special and it happened to you. If you don't give the company an opportunity to make it right, then you're just being an a$$hole for the sake of being an a$$hole.

I did email for help. A few times. They ignored me.

The only ******* here is the ******* who expects me to be happy with defective brakes.

(hint: that isn't me. I am the customer and the customer is always right).

Hayes just emailed me to say they are going to help me. That's nice. A top bod emailed me too. Which is even nicer.

I'll see how that goes. I guess I have just spurted too much DOT4 to be feeling chirpy.

If I am going to say something positive, the rear was a great brake right from the get go. It was able to bring the bike to a swift stop. Impressive for a rear. Loads of bite, though a tad noisy. But a lot of bite. I like bite.

The front has always felt wrong. Like it wasn't the same brake.

Still contemplating a new set of brakes though.

Yes, but you forgot, he bought his 'American' product via grey market from Honk Kong.
The OP got exactly what he paid for. When I first read Steves post I thought he was out of line. But now reading this absolute train wreck, it makes total sense and well justified!

b1tch and moan that your illegal product won't work, refuse to listen to info provided, insist that you know ALL but fail to understand very simple concepts.....

Classic interweb genius!!!!!

BTW, WTF is a 2:1 engineer???? You have a degree in ratios? Is this one of the "you are really a mechanic/maintainance guy but we will call you an engineer" things?

EDIT: I just read some of your other posts/complaints/whining......pure comedy!!

hhmm,i hate working with bicycle hydrolics also , though i just ordered a hayes stroker trail rear brake. i think(hope) your bad brake was the exception to the rule. If my brake starts to do that i think i'd just call hayes and send it off to it's maker and throw my cable operated caliper back on. There are some people that have no real problem with bicycle hydrolics like that guy that put up the diagram of a hayes lever and said if this part leaks open it up and replace, reassemble ,bleed, ride. Others feel that bicycle hydrolics seem to be way worse than the motorcycle(and automotive) stuff,i haven't worked on that much mc hydrolics but i just set up a front brembo brake (2 calipers)from dry,no problem.I've heard other people say the same thing, motorcycle brakes are made to stop 6-7 hundred pounds of stuff from 150 mph, bicycle brakes are...not.

I had to Google it. Basically tells what level of honors student you are. There's a 1st, 2nd (2:1), 3rd (2:2), and 4th class honors degrees, and then general "you passed".
