Ooooooch.

The conga line.
Image

The next day, HAB and a buddy of his from a bit more north came down for a tour of a nice little spot.
Image

Image

HAB was on-sighting stuff left and right, even considering the less than stellar directional sense of his guide.

The PP on the right is now pretty indistinguishable from the legit trail on the left. GRRRRRR! WTF, people??? It's a freakin' rock roll over a log (rolls nicely over, you can air it as well) and is way easier than many other little "features" in this trail system. WTH are riders doing on the rest of the stuff???? I used to block the PP off, but have given up after seeing it unblocked, even later on in the same freakin' day!

Actually, so was September. I saw bears, but didn't get much of a pic before they fgaded into the trees. Mama and two cubs. Mama was collared, babies were not.
Image

My favorite mini-drop at Diablo. Throws you into a nice left hand corner that leads into a couple table-top hits.
Image

Picked up a season pass for next year, that lets me ride all of October this year as well. Not bad. Looking to take advantage of that this coming Sunday.

Bonger in the air.

Some fun local stuff.

Will my product get favorable reviews/forum get preferential treatment since I'm pimping fo the boys?

Some Sprain Ridge & Blue Mtn. goodies.
Image

FattyB. Not a huge drop. Not a huge gap. Not a too chunky landing. But an incredibly crappy run in and corner setup to get to the damn thing. Nuh-uh, not me, know way no how.
Image

I love this little log over - supah easy to fly over.

There were a couple downers during the month.
Image

Fixed!
Image

And now relegated to slightly less strenuous duty as my singlespeed, with a smaller fork and lighter build.
Image

I'm a little

to ride it as hard and burly as it had been setup previously.

Oh crap, what's that????
Image
Downer the second. Stripped, repaired, and re-powder coated all done local.
Image

The drapes don't match the carpet.
Image

Aaaaaaaaaah. Feels good.

Just in the last week or so, started exploring some sweet stuff, pretty damn close to being right out my door. About a mile of pavement to the closest access point. The closest stuff isn't the best, but it lets me access some very good stuff, without having to drive.

And of course, the signs of good times in the woods were abundant.

C'mon people, pick up your ****!

Trailhead signs of someone having fun #908765.

Another great post scrublover. I like the body english HAB had on the skinnies.

You keep breaking frames like that and I might have to bring your old frame up to you, and of course go for a ride. :D Funny thing is I have even't ridden the Covert since getting the TransAM, it's just to much fun. "All mountain" hardtails are perfect for east cost riding, as your pictures show.

What bike were you riding at Diablo? Couldn't make it out in the pictures.

October is shaping up nicely, so far, with the advent of local exploration
Image

Sometimes it feels as if you are never really able to escape work looming overhead.
Image

It's easy to get mired, or bogged down into too much routine.
Image

Perhaps the blessed saint of the bathtub will help ease the stress?
Image

Nah, I'll take a nice and quiet spot to relax...
Image

...before slogging onwards.
Image

Just because you are stressed out at work, maybe, is no reason to take it out on the little guy.
Image

My awesome directional sense got me completely hosed while exploring the other day. Had a most wonderful ride, despite that. Came out on pavement again not at all where I wanted or expected to. Internal compass re-calibration was in order on the way home.
Image

Which enabled me to find some interesting things just down the block.
Image
Enough of the feely-ggod crap. Ya'll want riding pics.

Which brings us nicely to today, and riding one of my favorite trail networks. Ever.
Image

Pics of that, in no particular order, rhyme, or reason.

My apologies, Bill. Only decent shot of you today, and I managed to cut your head a touch.

He was killing it that day.

To be fair, the steel frame crack was likely from me bone-headedly over-tightening my seatclamp. Oops. More snug fitting shim/post setup going on now, and it ought not be an issue again.

Devinci Frantik/Totem combo. Fun. 37# even with DH tires. 65* head angle, long, and fairly low for what it is. Serves me well there, for what I'm willing to ride. Built up from spares/E-bay/good deals/used/new stuff for right around $2k total. Far more capable at the lifts than any of my prior rides, though still not a true DH bike. A full on DH sled would have been nice, but more money. And honestly, this works quite well for my needs and can take anything my wuss self is willing to do.

What a great collection of passion hits, Dave! That's the closest I've ever come to wanting to head back to the east coast. You've captured some good times - thanks for sharing.

Welcome!

If you ever get out my way, I'll do my best to show you some good trail.

HSSMITH:

St. Peter's Cream Stout. A damn good beer. Got a line on a local packy that supposedly carries the stuff. One errand on tomorrows list of "to do" is tracking some down.

Scrub, great pics as always. Were you at Diablo yesterday as well? Wife and I picked up 2010 passes, so we'll be there more often. I managed a double flat somewhere in the process yesterday.

I should've taken the man line on that roller, but that root halfway down had me committed to the bail even before my rear tire cleared. Next time.

Yep, I'm with NuMexJoe. That almost makes me want to ride some east coast stuff.

Great post scrub. Keep 'em coming.
Thanks. It's very good stuff around here, but in an entirely different kind of riding than out west. Methinks ya'll would dig it. The lack of vert is somewhat made up for by the good technical stuff. You have to work more to find a long smooth stretch, and the most descending I've done so far has been by lift assist out here. Granted, you can get some looooong stuff if you head more north of me a bit. Bits of fast and tight twisty trail broken up by bits of technical stuff and cross-stuntry. Random rock rolls, drops, log rides strewn about here and there mixed in with the rest. I never get shots of the smooth fast stuff, since that isn't where people stop to play, and I never want to stop my own fun for shots of that either!

Great photo collection, good to see a decent shot of Victory to show how tough it can be. It's scary to watch how fast the racers come down there
That pic still flattened it out way too much. STIL folks. Really.

Nah, did a nice ride at Ninham. Picked up my pass as well. May try to get there next weekend.
