To Whom It Concerns:
I am writing to express serious concern over Team Evergreen’s (TE) controversial involvement in recent Apex trail conflict management issues. This is being communicated via the MTBR Front Range board, as TE’s representatives have taken a proverbial “loose cannon” approach to trail advocacy rather than engaging their constituents properly.
As a MTB rider that enjoys all of the front range trail systems, I see firsthand, and appreciate, how much great effort has been made on behalf of MTB by TE, BMA, COMBA, and Jeffco. TE’s member contributions have been hugely helpful to our sport. However, TE is on thin ice here at best and needs to either step up or step out of this serious issue.
Peter Morales, clearly representing TE's “advocacy” efforts, has made alarming and emphatic statements about Apex in notes and in public OSAC forums that are completely counter productive to Jeffco’s need for real trail conflict solutions, the front range MTB community, and to proven trail management policies supported by COMBA, IMBA, and a majority of local bike businesses. It is also clear that TE leadership is ignorant about the manner in which TE is representing itself, or is in total disagreement internally, or both. Therefore, much of the front range mountain biking community is now questioning TE's position.
In that regard, TE likely has one of several options. First, it can make a clear statement about its organization’s position in this matter, ASAP today. Second, it can remain silent, which only will serve to raise more questions and doubts about TE's relevancy and potentially massive conflicts. Lastly, it can dissolve or at minimum shrink back into its original charter as an Evergreen bike club and stay out of Golden’s trail advocacy challenges.
