Scott Scale 29er vs Fisher X-Caliber '09

Hello all-

I'm rying to figure out my next bike purchase and I am pretty sure it is going to be a 29er.

I really wanted the 2010 X-Caliber, but Trek is out of stock until February. I can get the Scott and the 2009 Fisher for right about the same price. Based on the specs and any personal experience, which would you all recommend?

Personally? The Fisher Hands down. Been making 29ers for ever.
They have the Geo nailed.

Scott- Who is he? First gen 29er. Is it nailed on geo, stiffness quality etc???

I purchased a 09 XCal..... either bike looks good, I wanted the Fox fork

Scott doesn’t appear to have the geometry on their site yet so until they do I would ditch that one. Get the Fisher…

Fisher geometry is dialed, and the frames are decent. I wouldn't be afraid to ride one at all....that said:

The Scott Scale is an amazing ride. I rode it at the Outdoor Demo and was very impressed with the frames stiffness (lateral rigidity) and the thing just plain went where you pointed it. The acceleration was on par with anything carbon we rode there. The chain stays are pretty short looking, and the bike climbed like they were and also wheelied like they were.

All of that on top of a sharp looking graphics package, and you could have it now?

I wouldn't wait, but that's just me.

I'll give you the same advice everyone gave me when I got my Paragon in '08. If you want a 29er go with Fisher... I've never regretted it! Great ride!

Thanks for the replies. I think deep down I want the Fisher, so I will probably go with that, and as some of you have mentioned, the Fox shock is supposedly the hotness.

And even if there is the frame issue-the Fisher would have the lifetime warranty.

i dont know where ya live or what frame size ya whant but my local fisher shop has a 19.5 2010 excaliber in stock, they could probley ship it to ya. just a thought

I rode the Scale at Demo Days and it is a really good bike, fast, stiff pedaling and very agile. I liked it a lot and I think it would make a great race bike. It does not have the thru axle fork or the tapered steerer like some others do. I am 180lbs and I did not feel like I was missing anything in steering precision.

YMMV.

Sounds like you should follow your heart and go Fisher, but the Scott is no slouch.

I work part-time at a shop that carries both Scott and Fisher, so that ufortunately isn't an option.

I definitely will be racing this bike, so I won't count the Scott out, but for the money the Fisher seems to be a better bet. The Scott, however, is lighter and just looks plain balla.
