Well, I've had my 5 spot for about a month now, and I need to detail out reasons I shouldn't have.

(1) No more equipment excuses: If I miss a turn, or don't clear an obstacle, I'm not able to blame my bike, because it can certainly make it.

(2) No more rest on the climbs: I used to get a break from climbing, because the rear wheel would break loose, or I couldn't get over something, or I take the wrong line. Now, my Spot just rolls over everything.

(3) My road bike gets lonely: I have a nice road bike, but it's seeing a lot less riding time, what with the amazing amount of fun I get to have on my new Spot.

(4) My car spends many days at home: Sure, I used to be able to drive to work every day, but now that I have the Spot, and I found a single track route to work, I ride to work much more.

(5) No more longing gazes at bike publications: I used to be able to wile away the hours, looking at bikes that were better than mine. I can't do that any more, because I can't find any bikes I'd rather have.

Ah, well. Live and learn. I'm sure I'll be able to deal with it, but I certainly appreciate any and all condolences.

Welcome to the wonderful world of TurnerBikes! It's a pretty common theme right down the line. No doubt the DW is one of the best performing machines out there.

Congrats on all of the improvements, but consider taking some of the credit yourself.

Geoff, I'm here to help you out. Time to get rid of that POS dwl 5 spot. I have a horst link 5 spot in great shape; if you want it, it yours. We'll just trade frame straight across. No need for you to give me any $$$ in addition to the frame, I'll take the loss. P.M. me and we'll talk details.

Boo hoo, continued

Attached is a picture of the bike and how I get to work. You can see my bike is anxiously peeking out the window, ready to get back out there.

As if the woes of owning this bike isn't enough, when I get home my five-year-old is really excited to ride HIS bike, so we need to go ride some MORE.

sdcadbiker, I can guess where you work and live, I think. :)

I went through the whole Flux vs 5 Spot conundrum. I went with the spot for three reasons:

(1) When climbing on a 5.5" travel bike, I didn't feel like I was being slowed down that much.
(2) When descending or riding over bumpies, my old bones enjoy the extra cush.
(3) I picked up one of Turner's demo bikes at a killer price, and they had only Spots in my size.
