And people wonder why mtbers don't care for roadie snobs?
Because they're getting paid to represent their teams/sponsors at events that generate far more publicity than a bunch of dudes standing around pounding Monster/Red Bull/whatever, then bombing downhill for 4km, that makes them snobs?

What a convoluted world you live in.

Yeah, my mistake

I realized after I asked the question that this type of thing would not be part of a GT.

Ooops. Must be all the pain meds I'm on for the three broken ribs, punchured lung, dislocated collar bone and very lacerated face and ear. Worse case of road rash I ever saw and I didn't even do it on the road (or a bike for that matter).

When was mountain biking ever about time trialing? That's a road discipline. Unless you mean time trialing as in pacing urlself during xc races.

I do think it's good that theres a new avenue opening up in road biking though.
That's exactly my point. MTB isn't about just xc or time trial. It's about all disciplines on dirt. Although I have raced a few mtb time trials in my day. With this race, it's still road racing, as it's road bikes on a road, eh? It's not traditional, but it's still road racing.

Actually, I'm pretty sure you're full of sh1t.

Since the subject is DH/Gravity racing, lets talk about DH/gravity racing.

DH: Time trials.
DS: Also, time trials.

This, right here, is a DH time trial. Riders start individually, and the lowest posted time wins.

Just like MTB, road has alot of different types of riding. Some of them include time trials, just like MTB.

Anyway, this event looks boring as fyck. None of the good road riders will be there (the guys who would win), and I'd way rather watch Steve Peat shredding and roost a wide open muddy corner at 40mph then watch some dude ride a road bike at 50. Call me a douche, but I like excitement.

By the way not all pro road riders are good descenders. This year Denis Menchov fell twice in one mountain stage in the tour de france, he fell in the final time trial on the Giro, and he fell riding up a climb in the tour de france before.
Jan Ullrich has had some stupid falls aswell. The best road descender i can think of is Fabian Cancellara, but of course he probably wouldnt do this becuase of risk of injury.

salvodelli was quite a pinner on the road. none of us really know whose got what skills do we? I'm sure there are riders of both disciplines that excel in the other as well or at the very least suprise some people. Robbie McEwen was an acomplished bmxer before he hit the road. I think the op is getting skill confused with attitude on this thread. which, by the way is still farting dust~~~)))))))))))) sounds like more of a dare than a real structured discipline anyway, doesn't it?

I'm not getting into a pissing match with you, but if you go back and read my quote you will see that my comment was based on your "no self-respecting pro road racer" statement which has nothing to do with what they are paid to do or who they represent. Again with the attitude. My world seems pretty simple to me.

Shuttling on a road bike is even more lame than shuttling on an MTB.

No this is NOT part of the Vuelta. A GT would not include something so contrived. If you want to watch how road pros descend at 50+ MPH in a pack, watch the next three mountain stages.
I'm sure the guy from Cofidis who blew himself up on that 20% grade, stage before last, wished he could have shuttled the last of that hill.

They said Ryder Hedjedal (former mtbr) was doing 63mph on the descent. 63mph! On tires big around as my thumb! On tires a sharp pebble can puncture! noooohoho thanks!
and unlike the video, I haven't seen any padding on them guard rails, trees, or on the riders in La Vuelta or any other GT.

Right, I'm full of it. You're furthering my point. Look at it this way.
DH on dirt: Time trials = mtb racing
DS on dirt: Also, time trials = mtb racing

DH on pavement = road racing
4riders up going downhill on pavement = road racing.

My comments were in respect to one poster saying "this is not what road biking is all about." I was simply making the distinction that if it's pavement, it's road racing, if it's dirt, it's mountain bike racing. What's full of "sh1t" about that? Seems pretty simple to me.

why are some of you guys throwing such a fuss about it? i bet 95% of you guys are too much of a pansy to run the event, and the other 4.9% cant ride well enough to be competitive

looks more interesting than normal road racing. watching guys ride road bikes is like watching grass grow. if my job was to professionally train and ride a road bike, i sure wouldnt be entering an event where you're likely to crash and injure yourself.. would be pretty dumb for the pro roadie crowd to take to an event like that at all. its like asking mike tyson to take up televised drunken bar brawling.

Me thinks you know very little about professional road racing.

awesome...
post titled: "to anyone who ever said a derogatory thing about roadies" has devolved into derogatory things being said about roadies AND mountain bikers!

I love the internet.

P.S. unicyclists suck! (just wanted to be part of the gang and join in on the hatin')

wow. Lets see. What does it say 24 seconds in? oh yeah

"competition ouverte aux amateurs et pros"

Doesn't take a genius to figure out this means it isn't invitation only. And once again I agree with a few others, this is not what road biking is all about
Are you serious?? Learn English... Event is for invitation and selection only means some people (the pros) get invited and the rest of the places are filled by lottery for those you aren't invited but apply. .... Who are you to say what road biking is about anyway?

Any of you ever ride in a group downhill on a road bike? I hair out and usually hit the binders. Fastest speed so far was 42 mph, that time I forgot to think about those skinny little tires, probably because 3 other guys werer chasing me!!!

I dunno, anything with the word "Extreme" or "Rage" in the title, or that has a commercial with some loudmouth douche yelling is an event I will gladly miss.....
