The V2 is an awesome brake that IMO modulates quite well. I use sintered pads and only get a moment of squeal after they get wet. I had no issue with them on the Spot and still have none on the Sultan.

The only reason I'm even thinking about replacing them is for the Tech lever and slightly lower weight (I know it's sad).

Yea, its ALL good with the HOPE stuff. I say:

X2 all around would be good, or

M4 / X2, or

V2 up front (you've already got this?), and then either M4 or X2 out back (not sure of your weight / bike / riding style).

AND, however you go, run the new Tech lever all around. It is the nicest HOPE lever to date. (I've got the old Mini lever on my El Salt, the Moto on the Terremoto, and now the Tech on the new Knolly - the Tech is the sweetest!)

If you do run the Tech, be sure and check out the Hope Tech video on the Hope site, for bleeding tips. Because of the way the reservoir is, you need to be extra sure to purge out any air that may get trapped in the reservoir when you put the bladder and cap on. Just FYI.

I'm leaning toward M4/X2 combo with 203/183 rotors to slow my fat ass down. Bit I also think that a moto (with a new tech lever) front and a X2 rear would be sweet.

if you're running Sram shifters... dont' forget to order the adapters for the new Tech levers.
Nice! I didn't know they made the adapters. Anyone know if you can get just the Tech Lever? I'd love to 'update' my old Motos, the new never looks great. . .and the adapter is just the icing on the cake

don't know the answer but would love to know if the tech levers are compatible with the previous models.

they make adapters for XTR and Sram shifters
$28.50 + tax/shipping when I ordered a couple months ago.

Yes, you can purchase only the lever assembly (lever, reservoir, etc.), you can not swap out just the lever handle from your Moto, or other Hope, to the new Tech lever. Very different mechanical interface.

For the XTR as well? that's great since one of my gripes is the tech X2's is that it chages the position of the shifters. Gotta get me some!

Not sure if the vented one is really needed.
Wait, what? This is the Turner board isn't it? ...........:D

I'm running the vented rotor on the front now (and no, I don't need it, its over-kill for my riding), and started with the 203mm vented on front and REAR! Talk about toooooo much. Now running an M4 on the rear - 180mm (still more than I need, but control-able at least).

I've had my M4's for several years . Amazing control and power. I have ridden other brakes with as much power, but nothing with the precise control.
And maintenance has been zero other than swapping pads. I gotta try some of those new tech levers, but last time I checked, they were only selling complete brake systems.

guys - i have ALWAYS used hope brakes from their very first incarnation.

i've had them all........

both bikes now run Tech M4's 203/183 and they're perfect for trail.
the v2's were way OTT for trail use, but in alpine environments, perfect.
mini's lack power compared to m4's. mini's are more race / xc than trail, unless you're less than 10stone in weight...

just be cautious of the hub / fork interface with anything other than hope hubs.

my kings have a different offset which causes the inner rotor to rub the inner post mount on my fox's.

not a major issue, but worth noting.

I should've mentioned this as well; I had interference issues with my X2 front when running a 09 Reba/I9/X2 combination. I very minor rotor to post mount interference using the Hope floating rotor as well as some rotor to caliper adapter interference. Both solved easily using a dermel, the fork just required that the powder coat be knocked off, caliper adapter required a bit more. This has been noted before on the Suspension board and Brakes board as well I believe. Pictures of my dermel work can be in this post http://forums.mtbr.com/showpost.php?p=5706175&postcount=1.
