I currently have a stock Bad Boy that I want to upgrade with some off-road wheels but I don't have a clue as to where to start. I would really like to stay between 300-350 dollars. I don't ride off-road very hard so I am not looking for really aggressive tires but I would like some options from other riders that may have similar rides.

I had to google that model to see if it was what I remembered from some years back, and it appears to be; didn't know it had survived. How big a tire can you fit in there? Do you want to run 26", 650b, 29" wheels? Or will it even accommodate a 29" tire? Thought about putting some cross tires on your existing wheels?

ps What is the rear dropout spacing? 130? 135? Adjustable somehow?

A friend of mine was a big fan of the Mavic Crosstrails. They have a low spoke count, so if you killed the rim it would be harder to replace than a conventionally spoked wheel, but it's cheaper than building a set from parts.

Or you can order a set of wheels built with a rim you like on a hub you like. Next time I have money to throw around, I kinda want some Mavic 719s on 6-bolt XT hubs.

I think 26" are the biggest that will fit...I want to add a new set of wheels so I will have one for road riding and one for off-road riding.
Well you've already got 700c rims on that bike (same rim diameter as 29ers use). 650b's are basically about 27.5". I looked at the Cannondale specs and seems you've got 135mm rear spacing so you've got a pretty big choice out there but I'd stick to something fairly basic like these if you want to go 26" http://bicyclewheelwarehouse.com/index.php?act=viewProd&productId=14

not really sure...I just found them while I was doing some research. I don't know enough about this stuff to make any informed decisions. I can't afford two bikes, thats the reason why I want to upgrade this one with better components over the course of the summer so I will have 2 wheelsets: one for road and one for off road.
