i believe the deal with those gator ones is that you can use two different pad compounds, and they engage at different times... i.e. more progressive braking, but still powerful as all snot.

Really? I haven't heard anything about those brakes to be honest with you, they seem cheap enough, might be worth a try come spring. Could be an option for a front brake at least... Do you know of any professional reviews for them?CheeseSoda said:

Professional review not really, but our amateur test rider is testing the 8 pot now.
Pay him and we can make it professional
He says they do what it says on the box: work very well in extreme conditions and adequately so under normal braking.
After braking them in and warming them up sufficiently, he can do front wheel stoppies at about 50km/h coming down a paved road.
They are a bit less predictable and powerful when they are cold.
The rear brake is the same - works OK in normal conditions, but really starts to perform well when it gets hot.
So far the summary is that when other brakes start to fail, the 8 piston brakes start to work properly. This also means that unless you are riding super fast down long technical trails where they would get a chance to get hot enough, you may not be all that impressed.
He should have enough information on them in another month or two of riding. We'll publish our review then.
