Is this bike any good?
I am considering buy this bike at a local bike shop...

What is the bike meant for?
Cause on their site is says "Out of Bounds" which means???
Would it be good for DH or more freeride?

And if somebody could please clarify this,
What is the difference between Freeride and Downhill?

Sorry for the noob questions, but hey you got to start somewhere, right?

Thanks in advance!!

The stinky is a great first FR/DH bike
Dont listen to people who say they are crap and pedal like ****, they are perfectly well balanced bike. Out of bounds means Freeride in Kona's terms. I use mine for everything, Dirt jumping, freeriding and downhill as well as xc. While the Stinky is meant for Freeriding, it still goes great on the DH runs. The stinky is a great bike to upgrade. The only thing i warn is make sure you get the correct spring weight for your weight, the roco isnt a great shock unless you have the correct spring weight, but this is whats great with the stinky, with the money you save on buying it, you can put into upgrading parts. I put on a 09 fox dhx 5 with 500 lbs spring and the bike feels brilliant

hey. Stinky isnt a great bike, but it is a great starter bike, and like mentioned above the suspension is very balanced. There are a few differences in freeride and downhill bikes. Downhill bikes are longer, so more stable at high speed, the head angle is also slacker for more control at high speed. The BB is also higher for railing corners, getting the centre of gravity low and again, more control at high speed.
Freeride bikes are shorter, so more nimble at slow speeds, so good for northshore. The headangle is also steeper for better low speed control and jumping. Higher BB also means you can get over logs and such things easier.
Good bike, go for it;)

There are many better starter bikes. Stinky has a very strange geo (long cs on a fr bike??), mediecore susp and isn't too strong or light. I don't really see why people buy it.

You'll be better witha Specialized Big Hit, Mongoose or Norco equvalent.

The BB is also higher for railing corners
I must be hallucinating. Higher bb for railing?

obviously a mistake
Yeah the chainstays are very long.
I have ridden an 05 for 2 or 3 summers, and it has been a great bike to learn on. I don't know if the stays were as long back then as they are now, but I wouldn't be surprised, because super tight corners aren't its best friend. Its a great all around agressive riding bike though.
However, if you can get a deal on an 08 Bighit, I would most likely do that instead.
And freeride (to me) is jumps of any kind, downhill is riding downhill trails as fast as possible, often with jumps, but you have to ride well in-between the jumps too.

I will agree that the new stinky's (08/09) are definitely headed in the wrong direction and aren't really a good choice as a starter bike. BUT. The 2007 is a pretty bombproof frame, and, if they were ridden on the STINC they must be doing something right.

Thanks for all the replies!

Would you guys advise me to get this bike as a first bike?
(because the local shop told me they would give me 15% off of it, its starts at $2000, so its $1699 without tax)

I'm considering it, what are the pros and cons of this bike?

What is BB?

BB=Bottom Bracket... It's where your cranks attach. It it's lower it give you a lower center of gravity(better corning), but higher gives you better clearance (worse cornering). Downhill bikes have lower BB, Freeride have higher BB.

I can't really afford a bike that is more than $2000 because I'm a college student and am working only part-time.

i had one and sold it to get a bottle rocket. the stinky was alright. the rear triangle has a ton of horizontal flex. the stock suspesion is mediocre at best. the bike is also quite heavy. the last problem is that they are poorly spec'd. if you buy one buy it used.
