Hey guys - sounds like a great ride. Not wanting to de-rail the thread, but for those wanting to contribute positively to the future of mountain-biking in Wissahickon, there is a meeting this coming Saturday morning at Thomas Mansion. I have pasted the details as I received them from the Delaware Valley Mountain Bike Patrol several weeks ago:

As most of you know by now, the FOW hired Trail Solutions to perform
a scaled back Phase I assessment of the Wissahickon trail system.
Trail Solutions is a for hire trail consultancy through the
International Mountain Bicycling Association. TS has been on the job
for the past two weeks or so. I spoke in length with Rich Edwards
from TS yesterday and they would like to set up a stakeholders
meeting with the patrol on Saturday, October 23rd, at 9:00 a.m. at
the Thomas Mansion. This is the same day, time and location as our
regularly scheduled patrol meeting.

I would like to request each one of you to make a special effort to
attend this important meeting. It is your chance to give input on
the trails you ride and to hear what Trail Solutions have discovered
an what recommendations they are considering. Heck, bring your kids
if you have to! You have advance notice of this meeting. Put it on
your PDA, your Outlook, your Blackberry, and your calendar on your
frig!
Cheers!

Thanks for the heads up. And thanks, dankilling for the positive feedback. Where is the Thomas Mansion? I would love to be there. My time this weekend is tight but I would love to be there.

Good question - I'm trying to find that out myself! ;)

Edit:

Here we go:

Thomas Mansion
6245 Wissahickon Avenue
(between Walnut Lane and Johnson St.)
Philadelphia, PA 19119

On the eastern border of Wissahickon Park. Hope this helps.

Catching the train to Hatboro should be no problem, I can pick it up at Market East Station at 7:10, 5 mins more in bed, woohoo!

I've also emailed the Jim Thorpe bike place and lots of 19" rockhoppers at the moment. Are we definitely heading over there?

Can you answer a question for me? When a fork is listed as 17.3" what does this mean and how do I relate it to the fork's travel?

Cheers,

Mark.

re: the fork question... I browsed through the rental section of the BMS website. I don't know where the 17.3" came from, but I did see that Rockhoppers sized 17 - 23" come with a 100mm fork, while those with frames smaller than 17" have 80mm forks.

It's looking like Jim Thorpe will be our destination. Oh, and to answer your earlier question about a place to change into bike clothes, I usually change in the back of my Element (when necessary). If that doesn't work for you, you can most likely get changed at the shop when we pick up your bike.

That's great, hiring from Jim Thorpe will save me bringing a helmet and perhaps pedals too.

I'm really looking forward to this!
If it's not too much trouble, you might want to consider bringing the helmet/pedals/shoes anyway. Better safe than sorry.

If I can fit them in I'll bring them, but the helmet might be a problem.

This is probably my last post on here before I leave, so see you Sunday morning, 7:51 at Hatboro. I'll be the one looking lost. ;) .
I'll probably have a small black samsonite bag with me and maybe a camelbak too.

OK. no worries. See you at the train station. If you have any problems at all re: the train, give me call.

If you get this message before flying out, definitely bring the shoes! Working on getting you set up with an 18.5" bike with disc brakes and shimano pedals, so you won't have to rent.

Thanks Joe.

OK, I'll bring the shoes. I'll leave pedals behind, I'll buy some if I need them (I need a new pair anyway - are M520s easy to come by?). I'll try to get the helmet in but it's probably the hardest thing to pack!

Finding pedals for sale in JT shouldn't present much of a problem (if you need to).

It's a shame really, 'cos I have quite a few extra sets of pedals but none of them are shimano. I've got an old pair of Time ATAC's, an old pair of speedplay magnums (early Frog), two pair of flats, and an old pair of Scott SPD clones (which *might* work with your cleats, but I doubt it).

The only spare helmet I have is my girlfriend's. Dunno if it would fit you.

Hey Joe, Joe, Dan, Chris, Damien,

It was great to ride with you all last week. Thanks for the bike loan, transport and showing me around. I'm hoping I'll be over again and can do it some more and if you find yourselves in the UK get in touch.

You're welcome, anytime. How was Penn State? Sorry I couldn't help you out in the parts department (I hope you got my message at the hotel). Did you get to Bicycle Therapy?
