Hi,

I have a titanium seat post and an aluminum shim. I have used them together for several years with no problems, but recently it had become increasingly difficult to remove the post. Then a couple of days ago the post came out with the shim still attached and no amount of pulling will separate them. I am reluctant to hammer them apart as the post is very expensive, if worst comes to worse, ill attempt to saw off the shim ...although that will be far from easy too. Someone suggested soaking in them in coca-cola as it melts away everything, but all this has done is given me a very pristine looking seatpost and shim.

Any ideas?

Try Freezing the post and see if you can then use brute force with a chisel or something. If that doesn't work, put it in the oven and set it to 400* or so, then let it soak for maybe 20 minutes. The coefficient of thermal expansion for aluminum is so much higher than titanium that it should cause a lot of stress where they are bonded together, helping you split them apart.
