Can someone in the 160 lb. range tell me what air pressure has worked well for you? I couldn't find any guidance in the manual on a suggested starting point for adjusting the compression air pressure for models that do not have the SPV feature.

2006 R7 100 mm Super, with lockout

Start at 50% of your body weight and then see how that works. Dial up or down depending on your own preference. I have the R7 Platinum have both air chambers set at half my weight and that works for me and where I ride.

thanks. When you mention "both air chambers" are you saying that you have air in both sides? My Super only has air on the left side which I thought was pretty much standard. If you do have two air chambers and I only have on one, wouldn't that make a difference in the setting that I need?

I think he means half the body weight in the SPV chamber and half the body weight in the air chamber. Both require air.
Yeah, the Platinum has two chambers, the SPV and the regular air. It's truly a "set it and forget it" type fork which I love as it adapts perfectly to my local conditions with little bop when braking or when I'm out of the saddle. Plus, it's light and strong as hell.

I just installed an '06 R7 Platinum 100mm and set it up pretty much just like you described. Hopefully I'll get a testride in tomorrow. Would you say that your's is setup heavy on the pedalling platform? Lose any small bump compliance? I weigh 190lb.

No, the way I have it works for me. Sucks up everything except for the biggest bumps with ease and still rocket fast.

Best bet is to set the sag like on any other fork and adjust rebound, etc. afterward.

I'm in the 160 lb. range on the SPV version. I run mine around 65 -70 psi in the spring and about 60 psi in the SPV. If your fork is new, you may find lower pressures may be needed.

Mine is used, new to me. I have 95 psi in the main spring which is ironically 50% of my weight of 190 lb, came out right at 17mm sag. I came up with this before I found any advice for setting it at 50% body weight. I have the SPV chamber at 90 psi so I can see what it feels like. The manual recommendations would be 67-95psi for me.

I weigh 160 and have a 2006 R7 Comp (100mm) that I'm still tweaking (just got it 2 weeks ago), but seem to be settling in somewhere between 90 and 100psi for general XC riding. I started at 120psi and worked my way down. At 120psi I was only using about 60mm of travel. At around 90 it starts feeling kind of soft to me.
