I've found a decent offer on the entire Hone groupset and was wondering if anyone had any experience of it - reviews seem to be few and far between. My main concern is the brakes, are they any good or would I be better off spending a bit more and getting Juicys with a more diverse selection of kit. I like the idea of having some sturdy components on the bike and Hone seems to promise that but when the only information available is courtesy of Mr Shimano you have to wonder...

Yeah Hone is basically LX, so it's a good, stout group. However, aren't there two different Hone cranksets? One has a steel thru-axle at the BB and one is alloy. I don't know which one comes delivered with the group purchase. That's about the only potential difference between LX and Hone that I can recall.

I ran the full Hone set on my 06' SanAn. I must admit I was very surprised how much of a beating the DC levers took without a glitch. Braking was good with the 6" rotors front & rear. Only mods I made was the Shimano bashguard for the big ring and to get rid of the extra slack an '06 Saint med. cage RD.

Steel chainrings
I was just looking at the QBP site through the shop, and they're touting a carbon steel 2nd chainring on the XT crankset...but a couple of the other XT versions are obviously aluminum. On the other hand, I thought all XT granny rings were steel and only went to alloy on the XTR...but then things seem to change so frequently with Shimano that I can't keep up with them.crisillo said:
