So let me start right off by saying that Chromag has their stuff together. If you've not come across these guys yet, check 'em out here -> www.chromagbikes.com. The owner, Ian Ritz, has some great ideas about what trail hardtail geo should look like.

I've been in the market for a while for a light weight AM hardtail. I wanted the weight well under 25lbs but without having to run a super twitchy 71 deg HT angle spec'd on most super-light hardtails. Oh, and it had to be steel. The Sakura is one of the few bikes on the market capable of meeting these demands. The True Temper OX Platinum tubing makes for a feather lite build. This frame, size medium, weighed in at 4.1 lbs on my rather accurate scale. I'm going to build it out with a mix of super-light parts but will have an extra set of beefy wheels around for any punishing rides that I might do.

Here's a couple pics of the frame I snapped this morning, I need to take a couple more later in the day when the light is better:

Scratch that, I mis-read and the headtube angle looks very cool for a hardtail.

Nice...you'll love it..

I was in the same boat...for a long time I looked for a nice light steel HT for trail riding. Outside of going custom, I wasn’t able to find a frame that will allow me to use a 4 or 5 inch fork, offer a slack geometry (e.g. head angle of <= 68.5) while maintaining a somewhat steep seat angle. That’s until I found Chromag!

That bike is sweet and fits the bill. Ian is also a super cool guy...  from me...if I had 3 hands I would give them 3 thumb up.

Nice!

Please post a write up once you've spent some time on her... I've been looking for a similar beast. I'm interested in Chromag but at the moment the Evil Sovereign looks to be my next member of the family.

The Sovereign is a very nice frame. Quite a bit more beefy than the Sakura, closer to the they Gypsy. I've got a bud with a lightly used blue Sovereign, PM if you're interested.

Very nice frame. I've been drooling over their frames for the last little while. I really like the numbers they are running on their bikes.

Err, that is a sweet looking frame, was cool hearing about it on the lifts in Whistler, even better to see it. That is going to be a great build too...

We wait with anticipation.............
