I'm looking to upgrade tires on my wife's 2007 Women's Stumpjumper FSR Comp. I was going to put a 2.5" WTB Dissent up front, but was wondering what size tire I could fit on the back. The chainstay protector already gets pretty close to the standard 2.0" tire, I was hoping to fit a 2.35" Maxxis High Roller in there. Any of you guys running beefier tires on the Stumpy FSR?

I've got 2.25 raxing ralphs on at the mo, and I had to trim the frame protector... 2.35, hmmm that would about the max I would have thought...

Pretty much a 2.3...

or 2.4 depending on the manufacturer is about as big as you can go. If a 2.5 fits then it isn't a true 2.5!

Also a word of caution about a 2.5 up front. It is CRITICAL that you make sure that the tire DOES NOT make any contact what so ever with the crown of the fork when the fork is fully compressed! . There needs to be some clearance there. The max tire size for a fork isn't determined by what you can stuff between the lowers in most cases. A tire that is big enough to hit the lower part of the crown under full compression is a quick way to collect on a life insurance policy!

Fox recommends the following maximums if you are using the original fork that is OE on the bike. Measurements should be taken with the tire mounted on the rim and properly inflated of course. It is recommended that ALL tires 2.3 and larger be measured!

Max Peak diameter (measured from the tallest part of the tread, or tire peak to tire peak): 27 inches (686mm)

Max Tire Edge Diameter (measured from the edge tread to edge of tread on the side of the tire): 25.67 inches (652mm)

Max Width (measured at the widest point of the tire sidewall, not necessarily the tread):
2.4 inches (61mm)

They HIGHLY recommend not using any tire that exceeds any of the above measurements!

So do some measuring and make sure that you aren't setting your wife up for a sudden endo and some real hurting!

I think that tire will fit. I run 2.4 mutanoraptors all the time with room to spare.

Just curious, why do you want such a wide tire on the back? All you will be doing is hurting her climbing. I went to a 2.35 front and left the rear at 2.0

Thanks for the suggestions, especially about looking into the size of the of the front tire. I already put the 2.5" Dissent on there, will need to check it out this evening before we go riding. It fits in there so nicely but I did not take into consideration that it may get caught when the fork bottoms out.

For now I'm going to put a 2.24 motoraptor on the back.
