Building up a new spot,
07 Spot
05 Spot HL rear
07 5.5 Spot rockers
Not sure which fork to put on here. Ideally needs to be good for climbing and decents. Ligher weight would be nice. I see a lot of people like the PIKE. What about:
PIKE
ZOKE 55, Z1
FOX 36 '08 Talas
LYRIK COIL U-TURN

I will be building up a new spot, 07 frame, 05 rear triangle w/ 07 rockers. Not sure which fork to put on here. I see a lot of people like the RP3/23, or the PIKE. I have a Marzocchi on my Burner and like the feel. What would you reccomend? Upgraded to the spot to improve my technical skills, but am certainly not a super agressive rider that gets a lot of air. The most agressive riding I've done is Gooseberry, and Tahoe Rim Trail.
RP3/23 is not a fork. It is a model of rear shock made by Fox. That said, a Pike is a great choice.

ya'll are so funny! if the poster's handle didn't make you think that they were female you'd have dog-piled them for not searching and reading the FAQ's. :ciappa:

That said - the Pike is the fork du jour for the spot, but the new 55 (available when??) looks so sweet although, it might be slightly too tall for the spot.

I know that the Pike is the overwhelming choice, but I'm suprised that there isn't more love for the Fox Talas. I can't help but think that with a Push Industries Factory tuning that this would be one well-performing fork. Sure, some people want/need the thru-axle front hub that the Pike offers, but some people don't. And the quick adjustability of the Talas sure is nice.

That is so true.

I thought about the 32 Talas for the spot but the lack of through the axle (like R.T.R) and maximum of 130 kept me away. I think the 08 32 Talas now goes to 140, however.

Pike is very nice. I have the dual air @ 140. It rides very well, although after dozens of long rides now, I would prefer to have the u-turn version. There are a few times climbing where I would like to dial down the travel a bit.

U-turn is the Rock Shox version of Talas - also by the time you buy a Fox and send it to Push you could have bought a Revelation air U-turn (my vote) and saved hundreds to put towards more blingy wheels or derailleur or shifters etc... After the Revelation my second choice would be a Pike - but I think that is the biggest fork appropriate for a Spot - and if the OP is relatively light a Revelation is plenty stiff.

The Revelation, while a great fork, is still at 130mm max travel. The 07 Spot is designed around a 140mm fork. I like the Talas/Float/Vanilla series but the stiffness of the Pike edges the others out if you're a bigger guy and/or are starting to launch harder and come downhill faster. 140 mm travel is a must to maintain a 69 degree HA, adjustablity and stiffness is debatable in my book. If you mix and match fronts and rears and end up with a slacker headtube angle than 69, a shorter fork will do. Keep that BB high enough though.

Get the Pike, but ditch the U-turn. Why do you want to shorten the travel when its recommend at 140 for a spot with 5.5 rockers? No U turn means less weight, and less maintenance. I have one and love it. If I had U-Turn on my bike I would rename it to No-turn as thats what I would do with it.

At 140mm or more, I can see the benefit of adjustable travel. When I lived in the Midwest- no need for it. Here in mountain country, some climbs can strech on forever and get very steep. After 30 minutes of climbing, I'd be wanting to crank that travel down so I don't have to keep leaning forward and bending my elbows as much.

So yeah, if you live in the flats, there is little need for the travel adjustment. On the other hand, many here take advantage of it. It's a personal preferences thing here too but I defiinitely want it on any bike that has more than 125 mm of travel, especially since I like using risers.

Consider your terrain- skipping the U-Turn removes complexity and weight. However, if you climb 1,000 feet or more each time you ride, I think you may regret not having it.

I agree ! I ran an adjustable 160mm Manitou on a Six Pack and as I would gradually lower it it seemed to make the swingarm grow in length making the bike feel like a slug on climbs. Granted they're not the most nimble beast out there but they still climb technical steeps very well. So I quit using the travel feature and could still climb anything I can on my Flux or Spot, and I LIKE to climb. I didn't realize any positive benefit whatsoever. I prefer to set my bikes up for what their designed for fork wise. Adjustable travel, just more bells whistles 'n maintenance AFAIC. BTW, what ever happened to the Titus Talus Switchblade ?

I vote for the revelation

Even for the 2007 spot the revelation is a great fork for an xc'ish spot. The crown to axle is about 508mm, very close to the new Fox RLC 140mm.
I have the revelation on a 2005 spot with 9mm thru axle and is super stiff and light. It blows the fox rlc 130mm I had out of the water..

If you are into 5' drops, speedo pictures, and team sanchez kind of stuff, then get the Pike. I you do not wear protection gear and are going to climb like the rest of us, then revelation
