I am very close to purchasing a new mountain bike and one of the bikes that has caught my eye is the Motobecane Fly 9357. I see that the weight is around 21 lbs. Now I'm 6' 2" and I weigh approx. 250 lbs. (plan on starting a diet). I have a few questions about this bike:

Am I too heavy for this bike?

Does this bike have the strength and durability to support me over time?

Or is this bike meant for lighter riders?

Thanks

Well, I'm not really qualified to answer your question regarding weight (I'm 5'9" 175lbs). I will tell you, however, that I love my '07 Fly 9357. It's been about 2 months and 150 miles. It is incredibly light! I have an '07 Santa Cruz Superlight that I use for trails - should say intend to use since it's been raining alot in Dallas. So, this Moto gets ridden mostly on neighborhood hike and bike (concrete) trails. I can't be any happier with my purchase of the 9357.

I think it's nice to see Motobecane get a new customer. However, It's more important that you buy a bike that was intended for your "Big Ness." :) The Flys frame and components are top notch but in all honesty I would recommend that you buy a bike that's not intended for racing… IMO

also I'm not really qualified to answer your question regarding weight myself (I'm 5'10" 182lbs). You should try this forum and ask what kinda of bike they think is right for you. Click Here I don't think they would recommend a racing bike as well...

Good luck.
Fred :)

i for a fact know the weight answer...i just built one the other day at work, 07, 18" with heavy plastic platform pedals, was 22.5lbs....so there ya go on that...and no i dont think it would hold up too long with someone my size riding it hard...i'm 5"11, 230....it really is a strict racebike...
