I have enough money saved to buy a GF Pirahna right this very minute. However, the LBS boldly pulled out a 29'er Cobia and let me ride her., and it was "Katie Bar the Door!
Now I can buy right now the first bike and have a great time or I can use the money and put the Cobia on layaway and get her for christmas. What would you do?

Depends on what you want. I had good experiences on a Marlin (special edition) / Piranah (what they call it now) and can say it is a decent bike. If you want to be riding now, it isn't a bad set of wheels to have to "settle" for.

OTOH, if you want a 29er, save more pennies.

Never ridden a 29er myself, so I can't say which is better for you or which is better period. Ridem 'em both back to back and find out which one is better for you and go with that.

If you think that you're interested in a 29er...Slow down and take your time looking around. There are a lot of good 29 inch bikes out there.

Check to make sure that you really like the bike... the fit. Will the bike take the wdith tires that you want to ride? How does the Fisher compare to the other 29ers out there?

Well, my first question is where do you live??

If you are in cold country and you wait 'til Christmas, it might be sitting in your garage until next spring!

I'd probably get the bike I can afford and ride it while saving for the 29er... and in the Fishers you get A LOT more bang for the buck in the standard size bike... I bet the componentry on the Piranha is virtually identical to that of the Cobia (with exception of the 29er fork of course)... So is it worth twice as much just to have 29" wheels?

I was in a similar situation when I bought mine and I also had my eyes on the Cobia. But I got soooo much more bike in the Tassajara Disc for less money, that I went that route. I am going to get a 29er eventually, but I am now leaning towards giving a Redline Monocog Single Speed 29er a shot... (I can get it locally for around $400!)

You can always sell the Piranaha when you have the money for a Cobia (or any other 29er..). Take good care of the bike, keep it well maintained and clean, and you should be able to recoup a decent amount of the purchase price on ebay. Newer Fishers seem to do very well there.

Why wait? Your Fisher dealer probably offers financing of some kind. If you know you'll be able to pay for it in, say, six months, finance it, start riding now, and enjoy fall riding.
Ok...
At 24.9% APR on the Trek card? :madman:
No thanks. I ll pay as I go, but at my rate not the credit company.

My my my.....so pessimistic.

The Trek Card rate only applies after your free financing period has expired. You'll likely be able to get 6 months or 12 months financing with no payments or interest.

In other words, so long as you pay it off before the 6 or 12 month period has expired, it's a 100% free loan, with no interest charged whatsoever.

Let me put it this way...
I will enjoy the bike so much more if I dont have to worry about the interest rates. If you are buying a bike on credit and are a day late gtting the payment in, the interest rate rears its ugly head and bites your azz. Been there, done that.

No thanks, It will be worth it to wait until all the cash is on hand and then go and get it.
BTW, I have chosen to get the Pirahna.
But a hospital bill has drained my account so I have to start over with my savings.
