I want to build up a hardtail DH to attempt to pick up more skill and become a smoother rider, but if I pick up one of their frames I'd not have enough cash for a fork to match. Do you think the 888 would rake the bike out far too much? or would I still be alright?

It will ride fine . alot of kids hate becuase they like big bmx bikes.

i personally know riders that do that.

PLUS i would suggest it if you want the extra stiffness, like if you were going to do drops. The frame is also made for a dual crown. so it wont be a issue of snappin the head tube

it will ride like sh1t. you Head angle is gonna be soo slack its gonna be hard to learn anything. your bike will turn like sh1t, your bike will DJ like sh1t, and forget about trying to ride street. build the bike up right with a 130mm-80mm single crown fork. if you want to learn to be a smoother rider, you need to ditch the long travel suspension.

Idealy I would just put a used pike of something like it on my supercross and just ride that, but I'd worry about the strength of the frame.

I don't know about that...my buddy uses a .243 for dj and ha has a 100mm Gold Label II on it, and he has 2 wrinkles in the Top tube after only 3 months, and .243 won't return his calls. I would say if you're gonna run 2x the travel, you're probly gonna have at least 2x as many problems...And no, we don't hate cuz we like bmx, we ride so that the geometry is conducive to flow. Get a hardtail, set it up with a inexpensive 3-4" fork (or whatever the frame is designed around) until you have enough. Matter of fact, I have a couple frames and forks, always down to help riders out!

my only experience with .243 is second hand. my homie got the FR HT that they have, on the second day (no crazy riding yet, he just wanted to get used to the bike first) the frame developed a huge buckle in the toptube right behind the headtube. IMO a frame should last more than 2 days.....

(edit: this is the same bike as in the post above)

he is riding dh and not dj

If you can afford it get a Imperial then stick a 888 on it
yea anything expensive isn't going to happen, I've been dumb about building up my quiver, I bought the supercross and then bought a numesis project streetfighter becasue I couldn't resist. I figured I could just set up the supercross to be just a beater/commuter bike. But now I want that DH hardtail because I'm feeling like that supercross is just a waste of parts I could be using to learn to be smoother. Plus i could use that Dh bike as a commuter too, itd suck but anything is better than the Gemini.

I've been switching up to a Rumble with a Pike lately inplace of my 7&7 Helius to help my flow/dj/smoothness. Went riding with WCH the other week and realized how much I sucked without a bunch of sus. Improvement is coming quickly, you're def on the right track.

An 888 is going to net ~66 deg HT angle on a .243 frame which is too slack for FR, DJ, or Street. It'll be good for steep DH only. If you have the 888 to spare, sell it and swap for a Pike, should be able to do this no money out of pocket, then pickup an inexpensive frame.
