I agree, I think he was nice to only keep $60 bucks frankly.

Cruz, good luck with the build, it is fun to have something different. The only bad thing is that if you hate it, it may not hold its value like other ti frames do, since this company is sort of an unknown.
Your right about the resale, but I guess you take that chance with a lot of small builders, US or not. Hopefully I'll love it, and keep it for a long time. As for the $60, the money not that big of a deal, it's just he has on his wed site: "Pay a $300 deposit to get onto the wait list (the deposit is refundable, minus design fees, if any, until I start cutting tubes)" , as far as I know the only thing that had been done was getting my name on the list, that's all. But like I said, it's no big deal. I hope to hear back from Kurt today to get the ball rolling.

Report in 6-8 weeks,

Steve

In defense of Everti

I am one of the sponsored riders Kurt referred to in his response to concerns over his bikes' headtubes. It is true that there are blems on the headtubes; however, I have no doubt that my bike is solid and reliable. I knew going in that I was, essentially, buying a prototype and at a significantly discounted price. Kurt worked with me every step of the way on designing my bike, and he has never been anything other than a consumate professional! I am very happy with the outcome of my bike, especially in regards to handling characteristics and fit. I can whole-heartedly recommend Everti as a quality product.

By the way, I also ride a Sibex ti. fork made in Russia, too. The ti. products coming out of Russia are a great value. Are they IF's or Seven's? No. But they are a mere fraction of the price. Go for the Everti; you won't be sorry.

just curious what your weight is. Mainly, out of curiousity since you love the Sibex and it seems that most that have tried them have been afraid of them due to flex.

Sibex response

Law,

I weigh 170lbs and haven't had any problems with the fork yet. It is my third. I had two on two different single speeds, 26", so I couldn't swap. No problems. My brother weighs a mere 200lbs. and rides one, too. We are agressive crosscountry riders, but not freeriders or dirtjumpers. I know a lot of people fret about these forks, but the flex is what makes them magic on the trail. With the 29" wheels, ti. frame, fork, and post, this bike rides great! By the way, it's weight is 21.5lbs.

I asked because I have a ti fork on order as well, not a Sibex though. Thanks for the info.

Ti. forks

Law,

What did you order? I have also had experience with a Spicer fork, Chinese ti. There is an Italian company making ti. forks, too (can't remember their name), but they are supposed to be really nice. If you haven't ridden ti. and 29" wheels yet, you are in for a real treat. Good luck.

I think its been long enough... Did you order it???
Yep. But it seems its turning into one of those classic custom frame orders. The orginial time frame was 6-8 weeks. That's turned into now 10 1/2 weeks and counting. At last check the frame had cleared customs from Russia and Kurt was expecting delivery to his shop on Friday 7/7 or Monday 7/10, as of last Thursday he had not received it yet. So with that being said, I'm expecting a email from Kurt anyday with a tracking number saying it's heading my way.

Plenty of pics of the frame and build as soon as it arrives.

correction...

pic is my buddy gerry's fork. he landed on the broken fork leg and compound fractured his arm. he weighed roughly 160lbs. fork less than a year old. this happend on a flat trail about 15 minutes into a race. enough said.
as shiggy corrected me on exactly this a few days ago, that is NOT a sibex fork. it is a badged spicer fork, made for spicer by XACD. apparently, the sibex forks are holding up quite a bit better than the spicer/xacd forks...

While nasty, exactly WHAT does your post have to do with Steve's Everti posting?

Dean/Blacksheep made ti fork. It rocks. My Reba goes on sale in a couple of days, I have no use for it anymore....

Sorry Steve, Thought I'd follow up again. It's been another month... Your chain still getting jerked???

What? When you call Speedgoat or some other place to order bike parts do you try to talk them down? When you ordered your Dean did you offer them $100 less than their list price for the frame? I guess Americans are too used to buying used cars... Not trying to be a dick or anything but watching the LBS owner get raked over the coals when people are trying to buy tires and $300 bikes is starting to get to me.

I'm afraid so. I send them a email once a week and it seems that the frame is held up in Russian customs, referred to by Kurt as "purgatory". Still waiting..............

Well, I finally got the word that it looked like the frames from Russia were not coming. Kurt was very nice to deal with, and offered me the choice of, a frame from his new builder in the UK, or a refund. I choose the refund, I think I've learned my lesson on third party builders. Anyway after seeing the pics of the Spider today I thought "what the hell", so I stopped on the way home from work and ordered one from my LBS. I think the large frames should be ready to ship in about a month or so, I've waited this long, I can wait a bit longer.

The wait begins, again.

I would have dickered with them if I was uncertain that it was worth the price they were offering the frame at. Actually I did ask for a discount on some part through them. And yes I do ask for a discount at speedgoat, except I do it online (I have only called them I think once out of all the orders I have placed there). They have a price match deal that if you don't use, well, you're are being stupid.

As for the used car reference....I use to sell cars to pay the bills when i was first married. You should see what people offer for stuff. At least if people were offering to pay something at all you know they were at least interested.

Anyway, there is a difference in this case, easily distinguishable in the cases of Dean and Everti. You have some idea what you are getting with Dean. With Everti, things are much more speculative. See the Niner example. those that got on board with them early go a killer deal on stuff during the sale up to when their first batch of One-9's were ready to go. I think it only makes sense, getting a discount in proportion to the risk of being one of Everti's first customers. You go ahead and pay full retail for everything if it makes you feel better.

That sucks. too bad. Why not a ti frame from someone with a great turn around like, Seven or I.F.? You would have one of those in about the same time. Isn't the Seven Verve less then $2K? I love my ti frame and can't imagine having something like this in my stable from now on, even if it isn't this specific Dean frame.

Bummer on the Everti, but it's good that you got out of the deal. I would hate to think how difficult it would be if you had to return the thing because of a failure or bad fab. You may think this was bad karma, but I say it's good. Back to where you started at least.

Good choice with the Intense - good company and real easy to deal with.

Ti in far less than six months.

You could get a very very nice ti rig from Kent Eriksen (and it won't take six months).
The wait is pretty reasonable right now. Kent (and Katie) will take good care of you.

That's a bummer about yet another disruption in the Everti bike building.
