What year is the bike?I own a 2002 Marlin(same frame as the Tass)and it has a 29.2mm seatpost size.I believe 2003 had the same size but i'm not sure about the 2004.

.Also you could pull out the post and the size will be stamped near the bottom.

tass question

hello,

i just purchased an 04 tass. i took it out riding yesterday and made a couple bad shifts where i was peddeling too hard while shifting (still getting used to it). everything looks fine and sounds fine but the bike didn't sound so happy when this happened. how easy is it to damage a cassette or derauiler?

I'm going to guess that your bike is okay, shifting quickly through hard pedaling can certainly make some unnerving sounds particularly if things aren't dialed in quite right. Unless something is bent, twisted, or otherwise physically damaged, I would guess you're okay.

Assuming you actually damaged one of those parts, they are both pretty easy to fix, and a fun little project if you like that sort of thing.

The cassette will require three tools: 1) chain whip ($10-$15), 2) a freewheel lockring tool ($5-$10), and an adjustable wrench or vice grip.

The derailleur is simply loosening the cable, replacing the derailleur, and putting the cable back and the dialing it in.

That's the short answers assuming you have some basic understanding of how these parts work.

thank you very much for your help. nothing looks physically damaged. i think the chain got out of index but i corrected that by following the instructions in the manual. i need to get better at "planning ahead" with my shifting. getting caught in high gear on a big uphill is what led to this. thanks.

I have an '04 Tassajara and the 31.6 seatpost is still too narrow for my new Azonic Love Seat that I purchased... does anybody make a seatpost with a wider mount to accommodate that saddle? The sucker has 8mm rails on top of that! Yipe.
