...These things are junk. Is there any good reason I shouldn't take it off? All it does is rattle and rub.
Basically it's protecting your spokes from mis-shifts and trying to prevent your bike from becoming a fixed gear (no freewheel). Just make sure your rear derailleur is adjusted in tip top shape.Jwind said:...These things are junk. Is there any good reason I shouldn't take it off? All it does is rattle and rub.
Wait... for free???bagz007 said:you'll also shave about 10-20 grams off your bike. How sick is that?!!
You go brother! Reminds me of when my friend won a beginner race on his beat-to-hell Mongoose with about 3 gears that worked, mangled platform pedals and wearing a Metallica T-Shirt. Really pi$$ed off the other poser beginners with their $2000 bikes and spandex! I gotta see if he still has the pictures from that day...billee said:I kept my spoke protector on. I also have a 3 in. stem extender and platform pedals with Power Grip straps. I ride in old Land's End shorts and a dirty t-shirt. My pedal reflectors fell off and I am thinking of repacing them. The fashion police have been after me for months but I evade them by travelling at very high speeds.

Yeah, hear-hear, agreed 100%, right on target -- don't put any unnecessary foreign objects in or near your rear wheel! ;DEBrider said:It doesn't offer that much protections. Properly adjust your derailleur so you don't throw your chain into the spokes. Also remove your reflectors.
Yikes....I'm guilty on both counts. Oh well, I'm a cowboy, on a steel horse I ride. And I'm wanted. Wanted. Dead or alive.Locoman said:The fashion police are always out there and they do not take kindly to those protectors. Try harder.Jim311 said:I can't imagine a situation where the stop screw would come so far out of adjustment that it allowed the chain to be thrown over.
