For those of us Bay Area riders, what do you consider toughest climb of all the trails you've ridden in this area ?
I'd vote for "the wall" (the upper reaches) of Priest Rock Trail in Sierra Azul Open Space Preserve, behind Lexington Reservoir. There are plenty of tough fireroad climbs in Henry Coe as well.HTail said:For those of us Bay Area riders, what do you consider toughest climb of all the trails you've ridden in this area ?
That's a good one for sure. Are you talking of the climb right past the lower power poles to the gate? When I used to live in that area we would continue up to the Lime Kiln intersection, hang a right, drop down into the canyon, and then climb, climb, climb up to the top to the next green gate. Torture all the way. I hear the area past the top has opened up and allow you to drop down towards Hicks Road.dreampath said:I'd vote for "the wall" (the upper reaches) of Priest Rock Trail in Sierra Azul Open Space Preserve, behind Lexington Reservoir. The Willow Camp fire trail in Marin is my pick for toughest...1,700ft in 1.9mi. I've never managed to clean the section about 3/4 of the way up. It goes from Stinson Beach up to the ridge with ocean views the whole way.HTail said:For those of us Bay Area riders, what do you consider toughest climb of all the trails you've ridden in this area ?

In my area, the Clayton side of Mt Diablo is also brutal. Up Donner Cr road, left towards Prospectors Gap, at P Gap take the singletrack to Devils Elbow, then paved road for about 2 miles to the summit. Of course there are a few poach climbs in between that can make it even tougher.
Only if you're on a single.Sabine said:My driveway.

Hi Fourarm. If you're talking the road to North Peak that is actually to Mt Olympia, I could not agree more. Never ridden it, but it is a steep as hell hike. Of course, this is where the Zippe trail trail starts, right?fourarm said:The Willow Camp fire trail in Marin is my pick for toughest...1,700ft in 1.9mi. Hobbs road in Coe(up to Blue Ridge)...I don't think anyone can ride this. 1,500ft in 1mi.
Also at Coe: Bear Mtn and Willow Ridge.
Green Ranch road on the south side of Mt Diablo...rideable but very difficult on a warm day as there is no shade. Probably a 1200ft climb. Previously mentioned Prospector road has some hard sections. Burma Rd. also. Road up to North peak is a 35-40% grade!
Trail up to the top of "Lombard St" at Skyline also warrants a mention.
I was referring to the North Peak road that goes up to the antennas but that "road" up to Olympia looks very steep as well.Ebo said:Hi Fourarm. McCurdy is not that bad, I think a good rider could middle ring it. Very fun descent though, at least 5 opportunities for some good air.Maniac said:Out past 5 brooks trailhead near Olema. McCurdy climbs from Hwy 1 to Bolinas ridge. Brutal........
