For those of us Bay Area riders, what do you consider toughest climb of all the trails you've ridden in this area ?

Priest Rock Trail

I'd vote for "the wall" (the upper reaches) of Priest Rock Trail in Sierra Azul Open Space Preserve, behind Lexington Reservoir. There are plenty of tough fireroad climbs in Henry Coe as well.

That's a good one for sure. Are you talking of the climb right past the lower power poles to the gate? When I used to live in that area we would continue up to the Lime Kiln intersection, hang a right, drop down into the canyon, and then climb, climb, climb up to the top to the next green gate. Torture all the way. I hear the area past the top has opened up and allow you to drop down towards Hicks Road.
In my area, the Clayton side of Mt Diablo is also brutal. Up Donner Cr road, left towards Prospectors Gap, at P Gap take the singletrack to Devils Elbow, then paved road for about 2 miles to the summit. Of course there are a few poach climbs in between that can make it even tougher.

Willow Camp

The Willow Camp fire trail in Marin is my pick for toughest...1,700ft in 1.9mi. I've never managed to clean the section about 3/4 of the way up. It goes from Stinson Beach up to the ridge with ocean views the whole way.

Hobbs road in Coe(up to Blue Ridge)...I don't think anyone can ride this. 1,500ft in 1mi.
Also at Coe: Bear Mtn and Willow Ridge.

Green Ranch road on the south side of Mt Diablo...rideable but very difficult on a warm day as there is no shade. Probably a 1200ft climb. Previously mentioned Prospector road has some hard sections. Burma Rd. also. Road up to North peak is a 35-40% grade!

Trail up to the top of "Lombard St" at Skyline also warrants a mention.

I'm actually speaking of the section of Priest Rock past the intersection with Upper Soda Springs Canyon Trail. Maybe this is what you mean by the Lime Kiln intersection. From here to the top (where it intersects Sierra Azul trail) is monster steep. I rarely ride this area anymore because its magic-to-effort ratio is pretty low for me.

Hobbs Road

Hobbs road in Henry Coe from the middle fork Coyote Creek to Blue Ridge road. Higher than the Empire State building and almost as straight. If anybody can climb this, I would like to hear about it. I walked at least 70% of it -- you almost need ropes to walk it! When descending to the foot of this climb it is impossible to avoid feeling that you have made a very, very big mistake!

Hi Fourarm. If you're talking the road to North Peak that is actually to Mt Olympia, I could not agree more. Never ridden it, but it is a steep as hell hike. Of course, this is where the Zippe trail trail starts, right?

Soquel Demonstration Forest, "Sawpit"

I'd say the worse single short climb I've seen is the one 3/4 through the "Sawpit" Trail in Soquel Demonstration Forest in Aptos. Those who have ridden this brute know exactly what climb it is. Pushing your bike up this monster is tough as the condition is loose dirt, rocks and roots. I only know of one person who has cleaned this climb, SPARKY from Los Gatos.

The toughest I know of is No Way Hill

At the end of San Pablo Ridge trail, if you approach from Clark Boas, is something called No Way Hill. The kids raised in that area (now in their 30's) called it Wizard Hill. The part that concerns us is about 250 in 1/4 mile but the nasty part of that is just in your face steep. I'm not a bad climber and I have never even gotten close; steep, loose, rutted, off camber. I believe I know 1 guy who has climbed it. I didn't see it actually happen but I tend to believe him.

I was referring to the North Peak road that goes up to the antennas but that "road" up to Olympia looks very steep as well.

Zippe trail, East trail, and North Peak trail all start from Olympia....of course I have never ridden any of them ;-0
