Another GX chain bites the dust

This one might have 750 miles on it? Too bad it broke twice and I only had one spare quick link

For the “clean your chain crowd” here’s a different picture. Wasn’t shifting. It rained a couple inches 36 hours before and is still quite wet in spots.

I really need my knee to be able to withstand singlespeed again…

Happened to me also a couple of weeks ago. SRAM gx eagle 12 speed with maybe 750 to 1000 miles on it.
It broke at the quick link.

luckily I had a spare in my small bag on the trail.

Where did you buy it? There’s a lot of fake chains out there these days. If it wasn’t from an official SRAM dealer it’s probably fake.

750 miles or ~1200km is also what I would get with GX chains before I converted to wax. X01 and XX1 last about 3x longer, though your break appears to be from hamfisted shifting as the links have split apart.

All my chains come from official sram dealers.
i guess I move to x01 next time!

Honestly, I've switched to just running drivetrains together until they don't work anymore, instead of trying to swap chains.

The biggest thing I notice.

Never break kmc chains.

Sram were always the worst for me. I think I only broke one Shimano.

I thought xx1 chains were BS, overpriced ,fancy, nothing more than that. Boy was I so wrong. X01/XX1 are literally indestructible.

yeah I used to get 500-700 miles out of a GX or NX chain. I haven’t worn an X01 chain out yet at 1100 miles.

That has been my experience also. GX dead at 500 miles.

XO1/XX1 chains from here on out. Over 2k miles on one of my MTB chains right now. This one I will run until failure with a stainless steel ring and GX cassette.

Apparently I'm alone in that I broke an X01 chain TWICE in 118 miles. Came with a full AXS groupset I bought from R&A Cycles, so I highly doubt it was a counterfeit. Everything else on the bike has been fine. And the replacement lasted a few years, mostly being abused by 67Prince, before it broke from said abuse.
