Congratulations on the PR!
Thanks. I didn't have Belle today so I got to really push it.

tomorrow morning. Belle has social anxiety issues, and she wants to go to this, so I hope it helps.

Also, she tends to gauge her performance by my performance, because that's the barometer she has. We've ridden with her 'boyfriend' and his brothers, and they tend to out-ride her, though her 'boyfriend' (going into 7th grade) has finally figured out he needs to stay with her 🤣 Point is, she needs to have preteen girls against whom she can judge her performance.

I have a habit of leaving her behind without meaning to, and the goal I had for this evening was to wear myself out enough that tomorrow morning will be a recovery ride for me.

Wabs, I bet you could get another PR just by taking the extra gear off your bike ;)
I bet I could, too. But that defeats the purpose.

I went in bikepacking gear, plus I'm heavy myself. Adding everything up, I just figured out that the entire setup of bike, gear, and rider weigh... Ready for it? 380lbs, not including water.

If I'm going to ride off-road with this (plus another 10-20lbs,) I need to handicap myself on rides like this, and no cheating like getting off the bike to walk it up hills.

I have to take Albuterol for my rides.

Amazingly, I didn't have any wildfire smoke when I was just up in Whistler. It's been a largely smoke-free summer here for the first time in a long time.
Knock on wood!

Dangit, this is gonna mess up my plans to move to Canada to escape...things.

Feel better, wabs.
What do you think you're escaping man? The moment you set foot in Canada, border security will immediately whisk you away to join Sparty and JB in @Picard's dungeon.

shoot, I'm not even immune from Canadian wildfire smoke where I live. I'm not in an area getting it heavily, but I think my body is noticing some. I've noticed some extra congestion in the past week or so. In the past, though, I've actually had ash fall from wildfires thousands of miles away. even occasionally dust from the Sahara causing similar particulate matter warnings. it's pretty crazy.

eh, nowhere is immune, tbh. if not wildfires in Canada, there are fires closer to home that muck up breathing from time to time.

Canada is definitely among my options anytime I'm looking for a job or to relocate. I only wish my citizenship had been fully documented well before I finished grad school. Would have made including it in my job searching after grad school MUCH easier. Unfortunately, I only knew that I should even start the process when I was almost finished with my degree. and it took a couple years before I had my "proof of citizenship" certificate (complex family history increased my documentation burden, and I had to figure out who actually had the documents I needed) and several more before I was able to meet the requirements to obtain a passport.

shoot, if I had even known I was a citizen when I was younger, I'd have even applied for undergrad (and grad school) at some schools up there.

of course now my wife is pretty established in her career and is finally pretty happy with how things are going. and we like where we live, to boot. so right now it's my TSHTF option.

thankfully I get in pretty freely. in fact, my first time entering the country with my Canadian passport, I was told "welcome home", which made me chuckle.
