My wife is not happy with how much space my helmets, pads and bike apparel take up. Please share some pics of your setup, I could really use some inspiration on how to organize everything. I've got the usual:
  • gloves 3 sets
  • helmets 2 sets
  • night lamps
  • shammies
  • short pants, long pants
  • some jerseys
  • pads, chest and back armour
  • socks
  • hip pack
  • my garmin
  • heart rate belt

Do you guys keep your helmets on hooks on the wall? That would probably be neat. Also how do you dry your gear after a ride? I usually put them on the laundry stand, but the wife also does not like that o_O:rolleyes:
Easy answer, get another wife🤣

Shorts+liners and socks go in my regular dresser drawers. Shirts (wild print thift store short sleeve button ups) in a tote in an upstairs closet. Helmets, gloves, hippacks, pads, framebags, specialized tools, nice spare parts, etc. in here.

More helmets, wheels, tires, less nice parts, big accessories (like bike stand) in the garage.

I also have a similar cabinet-and-garage set-up for backpacking and rockclimbing gear.

Great timing! On Saturday, I prepped my guest room for my daughter. She's due to have a baby any day now. I removed my old wooden dresser from her room and placed it into my garage. Then I filled it up with MTB gear galore! Prior to my repurposing my old dresser, I stored my gear in bins and kept it in a corner.

For my shoes, I use something like this!

New Wife Day!

-I can't believe that took 12 posts to get out there.

I'll 2nd! :ROFLMAO:

Srsly tho, I mostly use Costco clear, stackable bins for the riding gear and they live in the garage. Some essentials stay in the car so they're not accidentally forgotten.....

Helmets, gloves, eyewear, jackets, extra socks, and other stuff like bug repellent and chamois cream stay in the truck, as does one pair of shoes and a bunch of towels. They're in a trunk organizer with a lid. Camelbak, extra shoes/winter shoes, full face helmet and pads, winter gloves/head warmers are stored in the basement on shelves and hooks. I swap out the gloves/winter gear/winter shoes seasonally. If my shoes are extra wet, I'll bring them in to dry.

  • Dedicated dresser drawer for liners/shorts/new unused stuff
  • Jerseys are hung up in the closet with the rest of my shirts
  • Gloves, helmets, and an older pair of riding shoes are kept with other tools and bike related consumables in a tote in my trunk
  • I try to stay "ready to ride" at all times with stuff in my car. I don't have a lot of time raising 2 toddlers, so I need to be ready to go at a moment's notice lol

Almost the same as that, honestly. I tend to keep my helmet and gloves on a little table by the door to the house and one of my bikes is generally in the entryway or on the bike repair stand and the other one is in what I've been using as a storage room downstairs. I keep a windbreaker/raincoat in a saddlebag (Surprised it fit).

For repair tools I've got a little yellow toolbox I keep everything in, of which I don't have a lot of. I've got enough to change a cassette or do the basic stuff though! :)

When we remodelled our 1st floor we added a mudroom as you come in from the garage, I'm sure it could be double the size and still not big enough!

We go between riding in the summer and skiing in the winter, and make ample use of the basement to store the gear that's not in season!

I was dealing with this problem last summer.
Jumped into my buddies vehicle for a 30 min drive to our riding trails on a perfect day, ripped the bikes off the rack, slip the shoes, gloves and kneepads on only to discover I have no helmet... ****.
To avoid that from ever happening again I got a Thule Roundtrip duffel bag. No bigger than the bag i used to bring but fits absolutely everything I plan to wear and room for the things I don't.
Not inexpensive but worth it
I have a Roundtrip as well. It stays in my car 90% of the time and has everything I'd need on a ride, and then some. Love it.

As far as clothes, they got with my normal clothes. Helmets, backpack, fanny pack, shoes, etc. are on a cheap garage shelving system dedicated to just bike stuff.

I love the roundtrip! Gloves, glasses/goggles, helmet, kneepads, headbands, some tools, etc. are kept in the roundtrip duffel on a shelf in the garage, next to the other helmets and packs. I just throw the whole duffel in the car to save time, and swap out helmets as needed.

In the bedroom closet I have a section for MTB clothes, where I hang shirts and put pants/shorts/chamois on skirt hangers to save space. It's a small thing, but hanging shorts this way (reducing the MTB footprint of closet/drawer space) has probably contributed a bit to my still being married. :)

It is in boxes and in my garage. I will need winter MTB clothes and maybe buy better gloves.

I have a cargo net in the back of my SUV that keeps my helmet, gloves and glasses and my shoes (mtb, gravel and trail running) all live in th car along with my floor pump.

Shorts/pants live in a dedicated drawer in bedroom. Jerseys hang in closet. Hydration packs and bikes live in basement along with other accessories (lights, pumps, some of my parts, etc) in a rolling tool bench. I have an old dresser with parts along with a workbench covered in parts and tools plus tools on a pegboard.

I have a narrow plastic shelf unit in bedroom closet that gets sweaty, wet clothes after a ride, most recent on top shelf to dry before getting moved down to a lower shelf. This is really my biggest issue as the shelves sit in front of the real closet shelves and rods and is kinda in the way
