Measured myself again with help from my wife and son. They put me at 75.5" (I've been 76" my entire adult life...) with a 33" inseam and a wingspan just about dead on 75". My current saddle height is a hair over 30".

So I'm a little long on the torso but not as significant as I thought. Eric at Neuhaus sizes me on an XL based on my saddle height.

Since I may order a Core, does anyone have extra photos of the different colors? Particularly the blue and granite?

I still really like the Custom and all of the options but you can't beat the price on the Core.

How did you measure your saddle height? The NMW measurement is to the top of the saddle (not to the saddle rails). My saddle height is 30.5 and I am 5'11". 30 seems crazy low for your height. My inseam is 32 inches.

I hung a tape measure by hand from the top of the saddle and looked where it intersected the center of the BB. Depending on if I went front vs middle vs rear (or tried to find a midpoint) the measurement is between 30 and 32"

Edit: I took my inseam measurement myself so maybe I got things a bit off kilter. Will try again and report back!

Edit 2: Measured my saddle height and inseam again and got within half an inch of both. If this is off (and I get that it seems to be) it must be a method thing.

Draw an imaginary straight line between the center of BB and top of saddle. This is the saddle height.

I have a long torso for my size at 5'11" with a 32 inch inseam.

What length pants do you normally buy? Do you have any pictures of yourself on a bike. You seem to have very short legs for your height and I would just want to absolutely make sure you are an extreme outlier. Steve (hardtail party) also has very short legs for his height. It's not unheard of, and the seatpost insertion of the HB frames allows for a wide range of actual seat heights.

I measured again. Height is 75.5", inseam is at 33.5" this time (son measured several times with laser finder and regular measuring tape, other measurements were me). My pants are typically a 34" but they are a little baggy.

Saddle height is 30". Note that the tape 0 marker is an inch from the end.

On my bike (looking at this makes it look really small):

Looks like OP got bent over a conversation about trail etiquette, an issue that a lot of people are passionate about. People aren’t wrong when they point out how lousy trail etiquette has been on the rise with the proliferation of e-bike riders. I think it’s worth discussing. Seems like dude sided with the e-cult and then dug out 😬

Anyway, no need to talk about e-anything in this thread, unless someone decides to throw a conversion kit in their HB I guess.

I digress… Why not just build up a core?

Measuring from the top of the saddle to the center of the BB is going you in the ballpark, but crank length, pedal stack, and fore/aft pedal position will also impact your saddle height number. If you have long cranks and pedal midfoot then your saddle is going be lower than someone with short cranks etc…
Yeah, for sure. Was only sharing because folks seemed to be in disbelief about my height vs my saddle height / inseam.

The Core is interesting to me, for sure, but I'm still concerned about fit. I don't have enough experience on enough different bikes to gauge how a bike will fit me based on geometry.

With that in mind, consider you are not quite ready for a custom geometry bike? Or maybe could get more out of it if when you learn more about bike geometry aspects that work for you?

For example, if you built up a core XL, you could very likely dial in the fit with stem length, bar height, and saddle rail adjustments. If it still felt too short after riding it for a while, you would be better informed. Or maybe the fit would be just right for your body proportions…

I would be more concerned with getting the reach right than the recommendation for saddle height.

Perhaps! Then again, he currently has a hardtail that he’s enjoyed and that could be a great basis for tuning overall fit prior to buying his Neuhaus.

Personally, I feel like this thread is a great place for groupthink on a fit or two and that that discussion - if kept general (e.g how to measure saddle height) - benefits a lot of potential hummingbird buyers who might be reading.

Do I think this thread should be endless ‘do I need such-and-such size’ inquiries? No, I don’t. But the dude seems legit interested in understanding fit and in doing the work on his end to get a rad bike. And I’d love to see the post where he shares what he landed on and how it’s working out for him.

regarding saddle height and body dimensions, I'm 174cm tall (just shy of 5'9") with a measured barefoot pubic bone height (too intimate for the internet?) of 32 inches or 81.25cm. I've worked with a few bike fitters and my ideal saddle height always ends up around 730-735.

I bought a M+ Hummingbird, which the geo chart says is for a 5'9" rider with a saddle height of 705-725mm. I'd hurt my knees if I rode with my saddle that low. I picked the frame size based on my experience with reach and stack of other bikes I've owned. had I chosen the ML, the extra stack would have made it difficult to get the handlebar as low as I want it, although it could have been possible with a very flat bar and a slammed neg-rise stem. I don't have my handlebar particularly low,—it's about level with my saddle. I had no problems getting the saddle where I wanted it relative my feet and hands.

As another data point:
riding a medium core
Inseam: 775 mm
saddle height: 677 mm
Saddle height recommendation is 690-730 mm

So I’m pretty much opposite of turtle. I sized up mostly for the reach and stack that I know I’m comfortable with. Size small would have fit the recommendation for saddle height but it likely would have been too short and stack too low.

Also notable: I believe Neuhaus geometry is listed with an unsagged fork. That makes the reach look shorter and the stack higher than similar frames that list the geo at sag. I was considering a Japhy when I got the Hummingbird, and the Japhy geo looks a lot lower and longer on the chart, but those numbers are listed at 30% sag. (A 120mm for at 30% is excessive IMO.) When you equalize the sag across a few similar bikes, they come out closer than you might think.
