It would help to understand what kind of terrain you are riding. I agree with the previous poster that volume is going to matter the most, but understanding what type of casing and tread you desire will also help.

The Schwalbe radial tires are amazing, you can use more pressure for rim protection and still have better feel, but they are heavy as f*&^~! If you are not ripping hard lines you don't need the strength of a 1200g ++ tire

Wooden wheels. You do the same thing in every thread you start, ask a question, then argue with all the responses. This way we can shortcut the process, you won’t like them, but it won’t take three months of posts to get there.

Cross King Shieldwall 29x2.6, 1000gm, decent speed and traction, wet performance probably not great, good wear, fairly inexpensive. I run it on the rear.

Never tried the Icon. I typically use an air tank to mount all my tires so no failures to mount. Have to pump up to 160lb by hand.

Vittoria Agarro Trail in 2.6 if you like a bit of extra cushioning. Not as light as a pure XC tire but more grip and durability. They also roll really well and the rubber lasts. I haven´t had the best experience with Vittorias rubber compound in the cold and wet but if that´s not an issue in your location I would recommend them.
Agree that a 2.6 or bigger tire is the best option. 2.6 offers a noticeable increase in compliance than a 2.4 (in my opinion) and you can run it at slightly lower pressure. Always been a fan of the Recon 2.6 in the 120 TPI, but unfortunately I've heard they are phasing that one out. Very curious to try the Vittoria options, just wish they didn't have the red graphics on the sidewall.
