I've been going on about this for a few years now, people not doing anything just for fun anymore, and today this video showed up in my feed really articulating what I've been thinking. People don't do anything just for fun anymore. So many people are trying to monetize everything they do, turning what should be "play" into yet another job.
And mountain biking is not immune. The constant push for "progression", the tracking of data and comparison to others. I'm guilty of it myself, or have been, particularly with Strava. Since dropping my premium membership I've found myself caring less and less about how fast others ride and really only use it to keep a record of what I've ridden.
