Some of you people won't be happy until your bikes have enough computers, Blueteeth, technology and batteries etc that they can pedal themselves. Oh wait.....................................
Yes, it is a conundrum of our electronic times. If something is marketed well enough people will buy it at the expense of other companies products/services...and then competitor companies will have to sell the same or better to maintain profits e.g. 13 speed derailleurs? Some people will not be happy until their car has enough computers..etc. that can drive themselves. Oh wait...... :D :D

Yeah, don't mind me, I'm just getting old and tired of it all. You pretty much can no longer buy a vehicle with manual transmission. Or wind up windows. Or as you say, electronic driver aids that do nearly everything for you. And they're mandatory. Motorcycles are going the same way. Lean angle sensitive ABS. Traction control. 30 different throttle maps. And the main driver of it all, is marketing.
I'm rebelling lol. I'm slowly downgrading my bike. Where I can. And while I can. And you know what, it's not half bad :) Things like my vintage Brooks leather saddle. And 27.5 wheels that suddenly became unfashionable. And cable brakes. Maybe my Rose tinted glasses weren't that tinted after all :)

I'm in the same boat. I'm old enough that even current mechanical bikes are good enough that I'll never ride them to their full capabilities as they are. I don't have any hand issues that would benefit from electronic shifting. I mostly tour so steel and as few batteries as possible is the sensible choice. So why spend 3-4x the money for marginal gains?

The future, it seems, just whizzed by me, on bikes that I have surprisingly little desire to own.

Why would you even want wind up windows ? How many times have you had a window fail ?
I'll bet a handle has failed more times than the electronic ones.

I was driving around a curve in the freeway last night when my truck decided that there was something in front of it and hit the brakes hard.

I view it as gimmicky and unnecessary. That being said, my latest acquisition came with internal headset routing haha

I've generally been on the tail end of new bike technology (other than building a set of Berd wheels back in 2018). Bought this on somewhat of a whim and have been quite happy with it overall.

This is the 1st steed in my stable with 12-speeds, electronic shifting, 4-pot brakes and boost rear. The only real downside is more juggling/fumbling when I added an additional headset spacer. I "cheated" on the rear wheel and used a boost brake rotor and axle adapter so my 142x12 straight pull and Berd carbon rear wheels fit.

Very nice bike on a "whim" :D , is it a Bold Linkin 135 Ultimate S?

Yep- 135 Ultimate is what it is called on this side of the pond; thanks.

The "deck was stacked" a bit after two folks I ride with rented them on a trip to the US West and were very positive about the experience. I kept thinking about it and ended up with a (noteworthy!) windfall.

That got me into N+1 mode and the price was right. It has a long wheelbase for sure which is ok for my late 50's somewhat more chill riding style (I've always preferred a more stretched out cockpit). For those who like closer in handlebars for more technical riding it would be best to swap in a different stem and bars for the wizbang integrated one.

The linkage can be upgraded to 150. The stock setup (with some shock spacers removed) is overbiked enough for me haha

Funny you should mention that. My current vehicle has 1 functioning electric window. I've pulled the switches, cleaned them, no dice. Requires further investigation. My previous vehicles electric window switches were known to fail, and they did. My 1968 Ford Fairmont had wind ups, they still worked perfectly the day I sold it a few years back. You want to just crack the window down 1/4" just tweak the winder. With electric windows it's a battle with the body computer, on the drivers window anyway, as it thinks it knows better than me, and fights with me to automatically fully lower the window the instant you touch the switch. When it works anyway. That's why I like and want wind up windows.
And don't get me started on motorcycles. My favourite bike is a self converted Motard. Because it's utterly basic, and simple. There's nothing on it that's not required. By law. It's a single cylinder 625cc four stroke. With a Keihn flat slide carb. Screw and locknut valve adjustment. A seat, engine, wheels, forks and handlebars. Kick start. It doesn't even have a radiator fan lol. It's as simple as simple gets. The headlight is held on by rubber bands LoL LoL. And it's light. No traction control, EFI, fuel pump, injector/s. Or ABS. And it goes really really well. Really well. I'm not a Luddite. I also own a late model version of the same bike. With EFI, ABS, anti stoppie, adjustable throttle maps etc etc. It's nearly as good as the early model. I don't mind the ABS, it will outbrake me most of the time. But the early model is still my favourite. But that's just me.
