I know @Donkeeboy is really big in the dinglespeed thing, maybe follow or check his posts.
I like single speeds being "singlespeeds" You carefully pick a gear that fits your fitness and terrain and suffer a bit when you get it wrong, which sometimes happens when you get it right. I guarantee that there is no one who rides SS that has the perfect gear that works on every bit of the terrain they ride. This is what I like about SS. Riding SS is about adaptation. I'll sometimes be at a 30 rpm cadence on a climb and spin a 180 rpm on a flat or slight downhill.

I asked my frame builder. He told me 34X20. It works for where I live. Rolling mountain terrain.
If thats with 29 then its about 2:1 (in 26 terms). Gear ratio alone doesn't say much and gain ration kind of says too much.
If you want to dinglespeed its best to use a spring loaded chain tensioner.
For the...
If you want to blog post then maybe start a blog?

Did anyone watch the video? It's a SS you can quickly adjust between 4 different gears (while stopped). From the 1940s. Well, at least it's a SS as much as a dinglespeed is. Interesting bike.

Like Hurricane Jeff says, I like single speed because I have no choice. As SOON as one goes to a dangle dingle wtf, it's no longer a SS. Period. Now the brain is futzing with 'when do I get off and change ratio', 'Demmit, I should have changed it sooner' oh 'I wish it wasn't so tall', 'I wish it wasn't so short' so so so uhhhh, mental. Riding a SS to me is not about wondering about gear ratio, but just pedaling the one I have. Enjoying being present on THAT gear. If I don't like it, I will change it at home.

After many years of SS’ing, I got lazy and just leave the 32x20 on. Running 29x3.0, I can do most any ride that friends and I decide to do on a given day. From 20 miles and 1700’ vert to 60 miles and 6000’ vert, I just make it work.

And yes, when too steep, I just HAB

So serious, just like pure Rocky Mountain water ;)

I get the take my toy and go home thing, I just prefer to change my gearing on the side of the trail and keep riding.

Wow. You really change gearing? I slog like I'm being beaten with a whip. Keep on keeping on. It's my lot in life.
Absolutely, I'll grind to the top and change gears for the down, sometimes I'll ride XC and use my doiwnhill gear, it just takes a minute to move the chain and tension.

I'm thinking of doing a 3 x 3 on my new FS bikes.

I really dislike derailleurs and shifters.

I'm locked in. I bought a 9er 20T Ti cog years ago. It's what I'm saddled with.
