This has been a long time coming. If you've done work with SCMTS in the past few years you may have worked with Judd Volino who is now Midpen's new volunteer program lead for trails. He's also a volunteer trail crew leader for SCMTS and in particular did a lot of work at Cotoni-Coast Dairies last year. To sign up for these events you'll need to create a Midpen volunteer account. I'm joining the 6/27 event on Mt. Umunhum Trail.

NEW Volunteer Trails Program!

You've heard it mentioned and it's finally here. This June, Midpen's Volunteer Trails Program launches and registrations are open NOW. Volunteer Program Lead, Judd Volino has been working behind the scenes to identify meaningful projects where volunteers can get involved with trail maintenance and gain a deeper connection to the preserves.

Join the inaugural project on National Trails Day, June 7, or any of the other currently posted projects:

  1. June 7, National Trails Day Event - Monte Bello Preserve
  2. All June Volunteer Trails Projects
As with all of our single-day, hands-on volunteer projects in the preserves, you can find new opportunities posted the first Wednesday of every month.

What will the focus be for sanitizing?

...

I kid, I kid!

(kind of)
The best thing that can happen is to have people who care about trail experience giving their time, sweat, and feedback!

Thanks for your continued help and advocacy for our sport! Your involvement on the board is priceless and there's many of us who appreciate the countless hours of hard work that went into making these public events happen. Thanks so much, I hope to find an event or two to be at this Summer!

Thanks. Several key management folks have been working toward this for a long time, well before I was there. The land stewardship volunteer program (mostly invasive weed management) has been really well run and those folks have done a lot of work to extend it to trails.

I checked today and all four June events are full. So far so good. Thanks if you signed up! New events for July should be posted June 4.

July events have posted, same link works:

All Volunteer Trails Projects

it looks like the 7/12 event is already full. I signed up for the 7/26 event at Los Trancos. I need to badger them to do more bike-legal trails 😂

Los Trancos was a fun winter option back in the day when seasonal trail closures were in effect. Felt like a small secret singletrack stash. Would be nice if there was access in there again.

25 years ago! I meant I need to get more of these projects to be done on trails that are already bike-legal, but we also need to create more bike-legal singletrack.

Next (bike-legal) thing opening will be at La Honda Creek this fall.
