I was thinking, maybe, that he felt a bit more "locked in" than usual?

Or maybe I'm theory-projecting.

If I was riding that saddle, once I got situated... I wouldn't be moving as much, I don't think.
Personally, I'd use that saddle as a tool to stand up more when riding :ROFLMAO:

I was in the water when a swimmer had his leg chomped off by a great white. He was in a pack out beyond the kelp bed. He bled out on the beach. Surf leashes were the perfect tourniquet but it didn't work. I can't surf that spot anymore but a quarter mile up the beach is fine. I didn't see the attack but paddled in to help and then stay out of the way.

Besides that, I've been bumped a couple times and had an eight foot mako leap out of the water next to me

We've had a few at Marina State Beach. The theory is the bottom drops out real fast there, and great whites like to come straight up from the deep, so it's a good hunting ground for them. I won't surf there anymore.

Had another fun one at Manresa State beach where there was a smaller shark cruising under the water while I was out with 3 other guys. The conditions were perfect and the waves were prime, so I think everyone was looking for a reason to get to stay out. I was floating just off two other guys and their conversation started like this:

Guy paddles back out from catching a wave: "I just saw a shark!"
Guy sitting in lineup: "A shark?!? ...how big was it?"
"Well at first I thought it was big, like 12 feet, but then I looked a little harder and a lot of that was his shadow on the ground, so maybe like... 6 feet long?"
"6 feet isn't that bad, he's not like... big."
"No"
Another dude sitting a little outside pipes up: "Well how fast was he swimming? Was he like swimming around all fast? Or like... cruising?"
First guy: "Totally cruising"
Second guy: "Cruising isn't bad, I'd go in if he was swimming fast, but cruising... I'm gonna stay out"
Outside sitting guy: "Yeah, I'm gonna stay out."
First guy: "Me too."

Then all 3 turned to look at me. I didn't want to look like a ***** or anything so...

"Yeah, I'll stay out."
Second guy: "Ok, cool."

The surf was good, I caught a few waves, and then went in to trade my wife who was watching our kids.

"Oh, by the way, there was a shark out there but.."
"WHAT?!"
"Well, yeah, but those guys said it wasn't big or..."
"Why the hell didn't you come in?!?!"
"Well they were all good with it. I think they were locals, so they probably see them a lot. They said it was no big deal since it wasn't swimming fast. You gonna go out?"
"HELL NO!"

And that was probably the only day in history I've ever caught more waves than my wife.
