Speaking of Rekons, here's a 29x2.8" on an i36. 4-5mm of clearance on the non-drive side (the tightest spot). I'd be comfortable running that personally here in the more arid parts of the country/world.

Otherwise, I finished building my MK7.

Sacrilegious perhaps, but I built it to be an around-town-pavement-pounder scouring the parts bin. Dual dingle or whatever it's called with 36x16 or 32x20. The Surly tires feel a bit dead and maybe it's the suspension seatpost, but the MK7 feels more compliant than the Dirt Tracker. With a different bar, tires, and a dropper, I could see this thing being a blast in the dirt.

Same experience with non-drive side on xl size. Rekon 29x2.8 on Alexrims i30 and about 4-5mm clearance. I hope it will clear duro 27,5 in the rear, it worked on Scrambler on i40 rim according to Andy. Front crux 29x3.25 is fabulous :)

I'm waiting for the ground to dry out, but my build's done and I've taken her out on pavement a few times - she rides great! Very snappy and maneuverable.

Hehe, positive edit to your lamenting post! It looks great and I imagine the ride sublime. Tempted to go all vikb and build a dedicated SS. Happy miles on it; please report back on how far over the moon you get.

Tennis elbow be damned, I took the Dirt Tracker out on a short favorite loop. Absolutely love the bike in its current setup.

The rub is that (for me) the MK7 is just too similar to the DT. It's got to go, but what a fun experiment in compulsive shopping.
The Mk7 has to go? Aside from the obvious (standover, tire clearance), can you contrast the two designs? I’m imagining the fork making for a lot of overlap. Thanks in advance.

Bikeinsights link, image above is set to "align ground." The MK7 to me just feels like Dirt Tracker light. While it does have a lower standover, the seated position is millimeters different than the Dirt Tracker, and the rest of the geometry, like the shorter stays, don't really do anything for me. For having a lower standover, I'm pretty sure the dropper length is the same as the Dirt Tracker (for me only 170mm). If I spent more time on it I could feel the nuances more, but out of the gate I think I was disappointed by the not-as-large-as-advertised rear tire clearance. I also think I was simply being compulsive if I'm being honest with myself. It's a lovely bike, but I don't think I need two Stooges at this point. I've been trying to have less overlap in the Venn diagram that is my bikes, and the MK7 is just too close for me.

Does the MK7 feel like a lighter bike or are both more or less the same weight?
I didn't weigh them, but similar to the bikepacking.com review, the narrower rim and smaller tire that I had on the MK7 made it feel lighter and faster, - a bit more pep. I didn't spend that much time trying to parse it out though.
