Annadel dirt absolutely firing right now. D was mint (though I entered from the middle connector and didn’t see how the creek gap was doing) and M was pretty much perfect except for a very muddy entrance and a lot of water in the creek halfway down.

edit: Forgot to mention there is a tree down on D, in the annoying climb-y bit after a creek crossing. Easily stepped over but will require a chainsaw.
Annadel is pretty, pretty, pretty…

perfect!

Did a big tour today, mc , lawndale, a51 /bt, hvster all at prime’ level. Thanks to all the gnomes!

I went to Madeira Portugal for 9 days. Spent some time with the wife ... spent some time with the bike. Honestly, so different than a bike park, but I don't mean that in a bad way! It is definitely a world destination spot and rivals some of the more better known travel MTB destinations like Derby, Rotorua, Squamish, etc. I have lots of footage I need to sort through!

Madeira has a plethora of long slopey, sometimes steep, sometimes rocky ridges, sometimes you were on the knife edge, sometimes you were cocooned up in a tight toboggan with walls closing in. Sometimes the trails are open, or covered in woods, or ferns, or sometimes they just point it straight down towards the ocean as the fog rolled in giving some very awesome visual memories!

The well known toboggan stretches were killer!

Momma Mia is a newer trail not on TF that was 100% loam top to bottom. Some of the finest dirt surfing I have every done!

Back to Black (new not on TF) into Blackline made for a super long tech filled line that just kept throwing it at you for the entire length!

I went with FreeRideMadeira. Zero regrets, they were awesome! I would not hesitate to tell people this deserves to be on your list 100%

Good timing, I am literally in the process of deciding where to go this June and Madeira is on the short list! I'll dm a few questions....

Oof. I’m still not entirely symptom free but my doc cleared me to ride as I wish so I made it up St. Joe’s. I hadn’t climbed much of anything in four weeks.

I also stopped by to check some of our work from Saturday’s dig day on the Los Gatos Flume Trail below Novitiate Park (this is a hiking only trail but hopefully helps SCMTS to get more projects in the valley).

No pics today, was having too much fun showing my brother a couple trails he'd never been on before, but Campus is pretty nice. Damp and tacky, and not squishy anywhere. Also, HUGE thanks to everyone at Rincon who didn't decide to long-term borrow my Joe Blow Mountain X pump I left out behind my car while I was riding. At the bottom of UConn I asked my brother "I put my pump back in my car, right? Ahh, probably, and it's too far to go back and check now." I was very pleased with society and annoyed with myself when I got back to my car and saw it out.

Due to a herniated disk, no ride photos for me to start the month, so more dog photos. With the storms coming, ski photos should be aplenty. Happy riding, skiing, and snowboarding. Post away.

Nice woodsy track, just add water, slime mold and a sand trap to make it more interesting.

Somebody is not a fan of my rake and from their perspective returned this area to it's natural state....could have just waited a couple days and let Mother do her thing but.....
That's too bad. It was like a Zen garden, as graceful as a capital S!

Btw, dropped seven Hwy 9 trails yesterday--doesn't get much better.

As often as I've driven by Mono Lake, I thought it deserved a closer look, so I made a plan to park at the closed visitor center and pedal around the Lake. A friend mentioned he tried the circumnavigation on his moto but turned back due to long sandy stretches. So I wasn't sure what I was getting into for the 40-something mile loop, but it turned out 29-plus rubber was ideal to keep pedaling through the sand and occasional mud. Temps were 22-50° with minimal wind. First-light start and finished in around seven hours.

Rush Creek had no obvious dry crossing, so I stomped through it and enjoyed cool feel for a few miles.

Even though I already am back to work, and have upcoming work travel plans, I still snuck in a lil' dirt therapy session! We don't get good digging dirt very often, 90% of the time its concrete, 5% of time its sticky ass slime / peanut butter that you cant even shake off from the tools, and this is the 5% where I feel like I am digging in a normal area lol! There is always a 100% of cows at any point. I literally rebuild these types of features on every trail out here 1-3x a year :( I always imagine what it would be like if I didn't have to rebuild the system every year ...

Formerly, before the cows destroyed it, this was an okay section of single-track but rather devoid of anything other than slight turns and grade reversals at its most exciting moments. I would always fly through this section knowing I was going to get to the good stuff "soon". My goal was to change that so that is a fun rhythm section of smaller jumps of gaps between rollers to keep people entertained. There's a big turn to a hip above this which should set you up nicely speed-wise to naturally float this gap or just high speed soak roll it if you're not feeling it! There will be a similar, slightly bigger gap / roller combo a little further down the trail from here before you will smash into a big berm going left.

Did some trail work then went to hunt down some tools that were stashed on a now defunct trail nearby. Tools were gone but the worst part was the long steep hike in and out to find out.

I ran into a ride crew last weekend who were very excited about my work and they asked if they could donate to my cause. If they see this (or anyone here really) would like to throw me some trail donations, I need more tools and will take the stoke gesture. PM me and I'll shoot over my Venmo.

This guy found the buffet today:

Back out there tomorrow for some touch up work and ride time before the rains.

Woot.

Lament of the trail builder! Other than PT wood for features, my next biggest expense is always tool. Doesn’t matter how well you stash, eventually someone will find them take them home and put them in the corner of the their garage never to be touched again :(
