Yeah someone mentioned calling Jenson and asking for any other incentives… I did it and it worked out which dropped it from like 3200 to 2900 shipped.

honestly I would’ve taken it for 3200 too, I can’t come close to finding any other DH bikes for that price with similar value. But 2900 just feels like a steal.

Regarding spring rate, I noticed the leverage rate is a bit different between the two positions. I wonder if putting it in the more progressive setting can affect spring rate? Personally i'm planning to run it in progressive/mx setting in the longer chainstay position (I also believe CS length can affect leverage rate as well?).

My point is, given the different configurations, spring rate could be relative to how you have the bike set up. For instance 29/linear is quite a bit less starting leverage then MX/progressive.

Could help explain how it seems people are getting different sag results - probably worth mentioning how you have the bike setup when relaying your weight/sag.

I think part of the confusion as well is that GT recommends a sag of between 17-20.6mm which seems low for a downhill bike. I just installed a 450-490lb sprindex coil which gives me 22mm at 490 which is better than the 16.5mm I was getting on the 550lb coil it came with. Trying to decide if I want to try out the 510-550lb version. If only they had one in between!

Oh cool, where do you see their sag recommendations? Also how much do you weigh, and are you running MX/Progressive settings?

Interesting they put ~23-27% sag. Personally ill be going for longer chainstay and progressive position. I think this will increase the leverage quite a bit and call for a heavier spring. Sounds like you might need the next step up on sprindex.

For what is worth GT did respond to my question on why such a low spring rate was suggested, acknowledging the people who designed it are no longer around.

“
Typically Sag is around 25-30% for DH bikes, but I am sure there are some out there with more sag being recommended.

I speculate that this lower sag recommendation, which is still just a recommended starting point for any rider, not a definitive instruction.
is partly due to the high leverage that the link has over the shock. The Fury runs a much higher spring rate per rider weight than average. I wish I had detailed recommendations on springs to rider weights, but I know in an interview with Danny Hart, he mentioned that he was running a substantially stiffer spring than he ever thought he would run.”
