I currently have a Bucklos 90mm riser bar on my bike; I bought it while experimenting with riser bars to see what was comfortable for me.

I'm at the point I want to replace it with something better quality.

I've narrowed my choices to the Cannondale Cruise Control (~100mm of rise) and the Surely Sunrise (~84mm of rise.)

The Cannondale is aluminum, while the Surly is steel.

I'd prefer to go with the Cannondale for a couple reasons. First, I can take spacers out but cannot add them. Second, weight.

I've read a couple reviews, though, that state the Cannondale Cruise Control bends with relatively light use.

I'm wondering if anyone here has any experience with these, and if you do indeed find them prone to bending.

Thanks!

I run a Deity High Rise on one of my bikes and it's solid. I'm a big boy too, and it has no issues. Might consider that, if you're worried about strength. They're built for dirt jump and slope style.

They both come with cross-braces integral, which is why I'm considering them.
The Cannondale is billed as a city bar. I didn't know they had some failures. I wouldn't.

And you can add a cross brace for the aesthetic. If the aesthetic don't mattuh, plenty of tall bars that don't need a cross brace.

Are you concerned with sweep angle? That's even more crucial than rise (imo) and if you like the angles on your current bars you should try to match those.
I can't find where the sweep is specified for the Bucklos bars. A little more would be nice, but not essential.

How wide are your current bars? The Cannondale are 760mm, Surly is 820.
I'm using a Deity 80mm and have been very happy with it.
Current is 740mm. A bit wider will be nice since I have wider shoulders, but I'd probably cut down the 820mm bars if I get them. I start having trouble with trail width at around 740.

I'll look at the Deity. Thank you.

Is it? I'm seeing it in mountain bike sections of websites. I think I'll write a letter to Cannondale and see what they say. Horse's mouth and all that.

I really like the Cannondale, but potential bendy issues are what's keeping me from pulling the trigger.

Other high riser bars that I've come across:

Ahearne Upriser (100mm rise, 830mm wide, has crossbrace): Uprising handlebar by Ahearne Cycles — Ahearne Cycles

Soma Dream Hi Riser (70mm rise, 780mm wide, no brace): Soma Handlebar Dream Hi-Rise Riser

I feel the backsweep characteristics of those bars are more for klunkers/cruisers. The Soma Dream Hi Riser specifically states "Not made for aggressive Enduro or DH riding ".

I have a Cannondale Cruise Control bar, haven't installed it yet but only intend it for a cruiser.

I wrote Cannondale, and this was their response:

I'm going to try the Cannondale first.

I really like the Ahearne, but it's also twice as much as the Cannondale for basically the same thing.

The Surly Sunset is awesome as well, but it has the same things I don't like with the Surly Sunrise, namely it's heavy and requires a shim set to adapt to a 31.8 clamp.
