Rear inserts only. I would like to try them on the front but currently both of us are very happy with the 2.4 on the front and don't really feel a need for a change.

Cushcore probably offers the most protection. So if you are a wheel destroyer (like my wife) I think that is the way to go. If you are light on wheels (like me) then the Vittoria might be worth a try. But nowadays I am not really a weight weenie and I will take durability over a bit of a weight penalty.
Because of your objective real-world use case info we are trying a Airliner Light rear. Good prices now. We're easy on wheels, weight weenie-itis, lightweight riders.
It's winter, have good loops around the house with smooth fast g-out turns simulating xc courses. If a tire is gonna roll this is where we'd do it. At the very least it's a short walk home.
Wheels are i25 and i30. Rears on i25 are 2.2 Cross King, will try 2.2 Race King. Usually run 17-19F, 21-23R depending on rock situation. Ideally the Airliner XC would let us run the rear 2.2 Race King about 1psi higher than front.
Fronts are 2.3-2.35, no plans for inserts.

Second attempt to test the Peyote was 50/50. Trails are still wet and slippery, but I was able to have a bit of fun. Yes, this tires is fast...like Race King fast on the straights. It took me an hour of riding in wet roads to finally find some rideable trails, and in the first fast corner I came in to hot and the front tire washed out..or was it my headset almost seized? Too much tire pressure? I loosened the headset a bit and took out some air of the tires and did enjoy how they felt. Seems 18/19 or 19/20 is my sweetspot with them. No more rain in the forecast for this week, so hopefully next Saturday I'll put them through some proper terrain.

Wow, very impressive, thanks for the heads up. More than I could've asked for.

Not scoring any better on grip though. Real-world casing width seems to match 2.35s as predicted. Seems like a good mate for the Rocket Ron. Real world 768g for the 2.4 doesn't seem out of bounds to me, although my Rocket Ron 2.35s weigh that with more knobs, and the Thunder Burt 2.35 about 20g less.

As posted in 2023 Race Tire Thread, Rick XC BRR is out. Dam, another porky...but apparently fast.

what do the sidewalls feel like compared to other tires you have ? maxxis exo user here.

How does the Pirelli stack up in that group? It seems to keep calling to me as a potential front tire.
Obv not Carlostruco but have run Peyote and Pirelli and find the Peyotes to be more predictable with better cornering grip. XC RCs were very supple, more so than Peyote but they're also much thinner sidewalls from what I can remember. It's not a bad front tire, more grip than it appears but does get a little squirrelly for me when the sand picks up (in the desert so lots of marbles, loose over hard, sand, etc)

I have yet to ride the Peyote on proper trails and good conditions, but I do like the Scorpion as an all around tire. I do plan to ride them back to back on portion of the trail I wanna go this Saturday, so I'll give my opinion then. But yes, it the Scorpion is not a bad front tire.

So...I was finally able to test the Peyote in real world live and dry trails...and yes, I like this tire and will become my go to tire on conditions and trails like the one I rode today. Tire pressure was set at 19/20 and enjoyed lots of grip almost everywhere, except in the pixie dust corners were I came in too hot and almost washed twice in 3hrs of riding. The trail offered hardpack, loose over hard, pixie dust, sharp rocks, some roots and .01% of grass. Never did I kiss the rim, and I guess I could lower on pressure with inserts to improve grip on cornering at hi speed. lso, no grip was lot when braking. At one point I bombed a descent not remembering the sharp rocks on it, but I kept my composure and tried to be as light as posible on the rocks...so, no flats!!!

IMO, buy with confidence if you ride conditions like above described. If the trails are chunkier, and your OCD does not allow different brands, my guess is you can do Mezcla/Peyote combo.

ProWall is definitely more robust and less puncture prone than the Lite. Also, a bit less supple...
I’m not sure how consistent they are, but I bought a pair of XC RC 2.4 Lites, and a single Pro Wall last year. The Lites weighed in at 670 and 671, and the Pro Wall was 685. I thought there would be a bigger weight difference. The side walls feel the same to me.

From my experience, you got heavy lites and light pro walls. 😀

But... is it fast ? As in fast AF ?

Well, turns out the Peyote is fas AF!!! After months of rain,my local trails are starting to dry in some areas, but mayor puddles of mud still exist.Nonetheless, I ventured on some easier sections with oh so marvelous results. Tire pressure was 19/29 and conditions ranged from hardpack to mud and slippery roots and rocks...imagine a visual of Mt. Saint Anne...I have to say that the grip and speed of this tire is impressive, to the point I might not go back to the Race King, even on races, until the 2.4 comes out. For some perspective, since you can't Strava trail conditions, this was the outcome of 1hr of riding:

PS: don't look at the rear shock travel ring...it's the only one I could find at the moment...
