Most of these are pretty much always out of stock, and i30 rims are more rare. There is a 1 star review talking about cracks if you click your own link.

I live in Europe, with taxes and everything the ZTTOs are less than half the price of these.
How can 175us be less than half of 212us? That math doesn't work. Please expand. Don't you also pay tax on the ZTTO?

As I said, the market is a mess. that was my point. That these ZTTO would even be considered at 175 is... wrong. For me The ZTTO would need to be like $99 to be worth taking any risk at all on them. And even then I'd be hesitant.

As for the cracks... They are ST rims. There are millions out there on virtually every $1000 bike. I've had several. I trust them way more than I trust ZTTO at this point.

Ironically brother I think you just proved that even high-end, name brand parts are susceptible to failure. I definitely understand the skepticism though; I personally don't know much about these wheels either. I just know the brand is extremely popular in China and I've had tons of their aluminum parts and tools, and most have been excellent. Obviously building hubs and wheels is very different than CNC'ing some aluminum.

I'm not an expert, but I think a lot of the price discrepancy is easily explained. Both resources and labor are less expensive in China. These companies are probably quite lean and don't have any marketing budget. There is no middle man (or men). It's basically factory-direct parts with a most likely crap warranty. I would bet that these same factories produce many "brand-name" parts for companies in the west.

At this point I own a frankly embarrassing amount of AliExpress bought parts and tools. And I'd say about 95% of them have blown me away with their quality for the price.
People will always try to justify paying high prices. IMO, the vast majority of bikes parts are plain overpriced. Take a look at how much Jenson is selling those $120 Enve stems in my Enve stem post. You have people thinking there is something magical about certain metals. I mean some 50% of the world's aluminum comes from China anyways. The raw materials from those expensive name brands wheels probably came from China anyways.

When it comes to buying parts like this is expectations. Just keep them real.

The only thing I would double check is the spoke tension. I've read about the spokes not being properly tension out of the box.

If there was a super boost set available...I'd be all in.

Is this the same set? A mullet pair is available.

NVM, they want $103 for shipping.

Are they Pawl Hubs or DT style ratchet hubs, Ali often mixes and matches the terms

Edit

I checked my ztto wheels and I have a 27.5 set of DR390's and yes they are DT style, mine came with low engagement rings so I put the 54T rings.

How long have you had them? How are they holding up? I'm guessing you used a ZTTO 54t?

I've only put about 100km's on them so early days(I am a fat bastard tho), I have them on my HT with 27.5x3.0 rear tyre and 27.5x2.8 front, XD driver and six bolt disk.
I peeled most of the horrid stickers off. retaped the rims and set them up tubeless.
Cheap enough to just give them a fair go.

so far my fat bastard friends and I have destroyed Shimano MT400/500, Giant hubs of almost all types,Bontrager line 30's, and formula Hubs.

Hope Pro 4's with the steel freehub are great but $$$$ one friend is currently using the Pro 5's.

edit to fix model numbers

MT410/500/520s : does that refer to hubs? I don't know a mt420/mt520 hub, but there is MT410 and MT510. Those hubs are durable and very heavy. If the DR390 can match with a mt410/mt510 rear hub being +200g lighter, then that would be sensational.

If it refers to wheels, then I have never seen an MT420?

they are Wheelsets, so you could look up the hub models but I won't be buying sh*tmano ones again

MT410 perhaps....
None of those are shimano wheelsets except mt500. MT520 and MT420 are brakes.... Perhaps you bought chinese fakes? :p

The MT500 is a $150 range wheelset, the cheapest shimano makes. I've seem them under $100 a pair on sale. It uses MT4xx/5xx level hubs (they aren't exactly equivalent). So I'm not sure what the comparison gets you here other than you think the more expensive ZTTO wheels are better? I am not defending the shimano as great wheels here - they are not. Just need to keep the information here correct, cause people may(or may not) buy ZTTO based on what people say here.

Numbers fixed

as for the subjective of me and my fat friends destroying Shimano wheels that's just evidence of Shimano wheels not being appropriate for heavy riders. Here in Aus Shimano wheels are FAR more expensive than the ztto's.

durability of the zttos, time will tell

Shimano's normal hub axles are definitely on the weaker side of things for sure. I mean that's why the whole aftermarket hub industry was born.
SLX/XT/XTR sylence ups are a different animal. Much better built, however they have their own issues with the drive mechanism (although my SLX is still going strong).

Australia. well, that's your own fault. :p Yeah depending where you live your perspective will be very different.

Bike24 as mentioned, although also as mentioned most options are not in stock right now and they don't ship shimano or mavic to the usa. Merlin is another good option although there is nothing too interesting on there right now. Red zone 7 set for $160.. Fulcrum Red Zone 7 Boost MTB Wheelset - 27.5" | Merlin Cycles
But then, this isn't apples to apples right? Not only is that 27.5 only, but then we're talking a 23mm IW 27mm OW rim. I wonder how much of this discussion depends on locale, and also the fact that everything has gone up in price the past few years. We can't just keep wishing things the way they used to be a few years ago, right?

FYI for thread: Price for the DR390 dropped $10 to $190 before coupon. For a moment, it was $150 in my browser, but must have been a glitch as I couldn't get it to check out before encountering a random currency switch to AUD, and then when I fixed it, it was back to $190.

There's 29 as well, and yes, its going to depends on what you need. Someone asked where to get cheap "name brand" wheels, that's just one of many places.

That IS the discussion! That fact that the market is so chaotic right now that these aliexpress wheels are worth the risk to people.

Have you ever ordered anything from AliExpress? Just curious, because most people seem to have a lot of preconceived notions.

Only reason I was willing to try these was based on having tried nearly 100 different AliX parts and coming away impressed from the vast majority of them. I actually have a ton of parts/tools from a brand called Risk, which ended up being worth the risk lol.

If these wheels end up sucking, I will definitely concede that in this thread.

People be having some reading problems today. This was not the point. The point is it is sad that $175 is considered a good deal for these. It's not cheap, or a bargain.

I should probably have not said aliexpress in this context, but rather it's a wheel with very mixed reviews, and very little recourse if it fails, so it needs to be a LOT less than comparable name brands for me to consider it, and it's just not (for me, we have already established it will depend on where the person lives and if what they need is in stock).
