What are those things about other mountain bikers that give you that instant first impression that this person is someone you are definitely going to enjoy grabbing a beer with?

Good sense of humor is one for me (preferably with a good dose of sarcasm/irony).

We need balance after that "other" thread. Good vibes time. :)

Being polite, friendly, thankful, and not irritated.

Seriously, just being like "hey, thanks for the info on the downed tree on the trail I'm about to head down" or "have a good ride", and not giving the stink eye seems to do it for me.

A bike that doesn't look pristine, implying they spend most of their time riding the thing rather than cleaning it and admiring it.
Oh, we might get along :D. My bike looks like trash 99% of the time, as I don't bother washing, and the winter muck builds up.

Also, in terms of bikes, any time I see someone who clearly has done something that seems intelligent to their bike, I'm interested. Or maybe just said something that makes it seem like they know what they're doing. Things like a soft/ultra soft compound tire, or maybe even just a tire that isn't the one the bike likely came with, shows to me they're more likely a interested/core rider, rather than just being a casual rider (not that there is anything wrong with that, I'm just more likely to strike it up with someone who is more "bike nerdy" like me).

I can't tell you how many times my old bike stirred up conversations. But it only attracted comments from people that knew bikes, so that actually worked pretty well as a filter. It got so bad that my riding buddies were considering making me a shirt that said "Yes, this is a Banshee" :D.

After ride beers.
Uh oh!

The willingness to pay the tab.

as a first impression?
Absolutely.

I generally dislike people. Maybe "dislike" is too strong a word, but I definitely have the autistic aversion to people. They mostly puzzle me.

Given that beer isn't something I generally buy for myself and the probability of a person offering to buy me one as a first sentence is remote, I'm very good with my decision.

Careful, you seem to be trying to take my hard earned title of “most words per post!” That sh_t will not stand, man.
