I made a post on Reddit about taking long trips (8hr+) with my bike mounted on the roof and got a reply about how UV can damage the resins holding the carbon fiber over time..

Has anyone here ever had issues with this? Is this really an actual concern?

modern cf bikes all have uv protection in the resins

much older ones might not

the resin will start to yellow if damage is occurring. if still clean and clear, no problems

the big worry on long drives is how close to your exhaust does any CF part get ?
(if you use a rear rack) drag vortexes can be tricky and though it may not look
close to the exhaust some parts may see extreme heat. even stopping at a light
and hot exhaust wafting onto the CF frame or wheel can do immediate damage
(might not be visible but the damage is starting) this is what kills CF on
long drives, not the sun

be aware of exhaust damage potential

What?
Roadies are known for long-ass rides, and some possibly 6-8 hours.
I think this myth...
...is busted.

The world is filled with little people so wanting to prove their superior intellect that they make up şħįť in a feeble attempt to impress strangers on the interwebs. It's best to just ignore them. To answer your question, no, your bike isn't going to crumble to pieces if it's exposed to the sun while you drive to the trailhead.
